Updated May 9, 2026: Worldlink has denied rumors of Meta building a data center in Nepal with its collaboration. Apparently, the global tech giant was said to be collaborating with Nepal’s top internet service provider (ISP) to establish a tier-3 data center with an investment worth Rs 5 billion. Which seems to be false at the moment.
There was also a news of “Meta and WorldLink have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to formalize their cooperation. According to reports, the companies have already signed a ‘Non-Disclosure Agreement’ (NDA) as part of this momentous deal. The agreement means that the entities won’t reveal key and confidential information regarding their partnership”. All of the report was based on Nepal Khabar website which broke the news on its site.
But Worldlink sources say, if it would have been true, we would have organized a press meet to announce the partnership of such huge amount. So, there is no any agreement or NDA or any sort of contract between them.
It’s also noteworthy that WorldLink has a data center in Chandragiri, Kathmandu. More strikingly, Bichuten has announced a Tier-4 hyperscale data center project operating from August, 2026. So, it does seem that Nepal is growing to be a bustling hub for data centers in the coming years.

Meta-WorldLink data center claimed details
Earlier the news claimed “The data center of Meta-WorldLink is going to be a Tier-3 standard. This means it is an advanced and highly capable facility. It can stay operational even during repair and maintenance”. We don’t know the exact further details on this; but it was based on the already published news sources.
The data center could play a key role in ensuring a safe and secure storehouse for banks, operators, fintech firms, eCommerce, and other companies.
For the unaware, Meta is the parent company of many popular social networking apps. Its services include Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, Threads, etc. The significant presence of a firm as large as this will highly enhance Nepal’s exposure to the world for data centers. At the same time, employment generation and technology exchanges can become other benefits for Nepal’s IT sector and professionals.
In the broader picture, Nepal is yearning to become an IT hub in South Asia. The current ruling party, the Rastriya Swatantra Party’s manifesto, clearly mentions the goal of becoming an IT hub in the region.
WorldLink, Ncell, and government enterprises also have data centers in Nepal. The growth of such infrastructure not just helps strengthen data security for companies but also plays a role in employment generation and boosts the local economy too. Although this news of Meta collaboration has been denied by Worldlink, we expect such to come true with investments of international giant companies like Meta.
