Nepal Telecom (NTC) has witnessed a massive increase in fiber internet subscriptions after introducing an affordable 30 Mbps yearly fiber package, targeting customers who need basic internet services at a lower price.
The government-backed telecom giant started offering an affordable 30 Mbps yearly fiber internet plan on Ashoj 30, as part of the government’s Digital Nepal initiative. The offer was introduced ahead of the festive season to address public complaints about the high cost of internet services in Nepal. But it also coincided with private ISPs discontinuing low-speed affordable internet plans. The result? The 30 Mbps plan at Rs 4999 received roaring demand from customers, over 1200 a day.
According to the latest figures, Nepal Telecom added 11,764 new fiber internet customers between Ashoj 30 and Kartik 16. Interestingly, around 40% of these new customers opted for the 30 Mbps internet packages.

The affordable FTTH service has particularly benefited individuals, students, and households that require basic internet connectivity. These are those customers in particular who previously subscribed to more expensive packages.
With the new pricing, customers can choose an internet package that better matches their requirements without paying for unnecessarily high internet speeds.
For comparison, Nepal Telecom added only 2,981 fiber internet customers throughout the entire month of Kartik last year. The recent growth highlights the strong initial response to the affordable internet initiative.
Furthermore, 28,192 people have registered their interest in getting a new fiber internet connection through Nepal Telecom’s online service and call center over the last three weeks. This indicates considerable demand for affordable broadband services.
To respond to the demand, the company has launched a complain portal where users can also apply for a new NT fiber connection. It’s in response to the 198 number being busy and keeping callers waiting for a long.
