Soon, Android phones will be able to show battery health percent like iPhones. Google will enable this capacity to Android smartphone users with an update via Android 14 OS or it could even go to Android 15 release.

When the Android vs iPhone debate ensues, features predominantly take precedence with either side boasting about their phones’ unique or better abilities. But one key feature that Android users might have secretly wanted from the bay across is the iPhone’s ability to show battery health percentage. Fortunately, they may not have to wait that long.

Google is reportedly working on bringing a feature to Android phones that shows battery health percent just like on iPhones. The feature will let users decide if their battery needs a replacement and also be more cautious with battery usage. Smartphone batteries come with a cycle and a lifespan and as they get older, their functional capacity degrades. Thankfully, the battery percentage feature will let users figure that out easily.

Android battery health percent update developments

The ability to communicate battery health information on Android started with Android 14 wherein Google created a framework. This framework could keep account of battery statistics such as charge cycles, and the manufacturing date. Recently, Google added a “new Battery Information page for Pixel smartphones” running on Android 14. This is available from Settings>About phone>Battery information. By tapping on this option, users can find out their phone’s battery manufacturing date and charging cycle count.

If you were unaware, battery charging cycle count refers to the number of times, a phone’s battery has been fully drained and charged.

With the Android 14 QPR Beta 2 update, Pixel smartphone users can acquire some vital information about their battery’s lifecycle from Settings>Battery>Battery Health. This shows the phone’s present full charge capacity compared to what it was when the phone was first booted but it’s not straightforward as yet. However, the code mentions that it can pass on information such as estimated battery health percent.

Currently, Pixel doesn’t display the actual battery charge percent however, Google is working on it. We can expect a fully functional feature with Android 15. If Google unleashes this ability, Android smartphone OEMs such as Samsung, Xiaomi, Redmi, vivo, realme, etc. will also introduce it via their custom Android skin.

Would it delight you if Google could roll out the feature that shows battery health percent on Android just like on iPhones? Which other features do you want on Android that are common on iPhones? You can share in our comment section below.
