Android 17 Beta 1 Features
A more responsive user interface
Right off the bat, let’s start with how the new OS has the UI running. It goes without saying that with each new Android OS, the UI is supposed to improve. Android 16 was the same, and so is Android 17. What you get is a more responsive user interface (UI). In the first beta, we see that Pixel Launcher’s search bar is toned down, and the “At a Glance Widget” can be hidden. Another noticeable change is that the Settings app shows options more organized. But these are minor readjustments, yet they assure a fresh experience for the users.
Performance improvements
The Android 17 Beta 1 is all about the early buildup. So, puts heavy emphasis on memory management, stability, and battery optimization and efficiency. It also works on a stronger security system, including stricter permissions for apps, background access, etc.

Other tidbits
The beta release shows that the three horizontal dots for volume have gone. Instead, it’s now an icon for volume adjustments. The location indicator in the notification bar looks darker.

Should you install it?
The choice to try it is subjective, but the Android 17 Beta 1 comes with issues and bugs as it’s in the early development phase. Also, the chances of users installing it on their phones are very low. That’s because officially, it’s supported for select Pixel phones only. Next, many will be hesitant to give it a go as it’s an early build and may likely contain many bugs. It’s going to be more of an experiment than a function. But if you own a compatible Pixel phone and are eager to try it, you can do so with caution.
