Facebook’s Portal TV Launches in Nepal, Find Its Features and Price

Portal TV by Facebook has been launched in Nepal. It allows users to video-call with family and friends up to 8 users at once. Geneses Solutions launched this product in the Nepali market for Facebook users. Find the details of Facebook Portal TV along with features and price.

Portal TV by Facebook is a camera device hooked to a larger screen for video calls. But It doesn’t end there. It also lets you stream your Netflix packages and cover your Facebook stories. It is a feature rich service that will create an ecosystem of Facebook right inside your living room.

Portal TV will make for a smoother and immersive viewing with its wide 120-degree field view. Furthermore, the 8 field microphone array that would produce a high-quality audio to make for larger spaces.

Features

You would be forgiven to believe that Facebook’s Portal TV is for mere video calls. Apart from 8 users video chat in an immersive audio-visual experience, it also comes with many other features that make it a joyful addition inside your living room.

Netflix, Amazon Prime and Much More

Portal TV comes with Netflix and Prime Videos subscription. After downloading the app, users can just relax and enjoy their favorite movies or videos on demand. While making video calls with another user with Portal TV, they can simultaneously watch the same video on the screen. More on this below.

Apart from these, users can stream their favourite music on Spotify and Pandora. Browsing Facebook is default service on it too.

AI Powered Camera

Portal TV’s AI camera is a good addition to enhance video conference interaction. Its Smart Camera “automatically pans and zooms to keep up with the action.” It doesn’t only single out one user but can also accommodate more width due to its 120 degree viewing field.

“Spotlight” helps to put a certain person in center as well. Despite its limitation it can detect a moving object and captures it as subject. Although the camera doesn’t have facial recognition capacity yet, it still studies the movement to identify a subject even from a distance.

Watch Together

This portal TV enters with Watch Together feature. It enables two users to watch the same video contents together if they both have Portal TV. While making a video call, your calling video would be on the overlay. The video both are watching takes to the big screen.

Besides these, the Portal TV also comes with various effects including face filters and story time for kids. There is also a browser, Amazon Prime Video and others.

Alexa Comes as Built-In Voice Assistant

One major highlight of Portal TV is its inclusion of Alexa. The voice assistant will help the user by executing all the designated commands. “Hey Portal” will trigger Alexa into various specific commands such as calling someone, increasing the volume or setting up alarm. Meanwhile Alexa can also be used to search on web.

As For Privacy

Facebook has been scrutinized in the past for its handling or manhandling of users’ private data. Thus, it has added some protective layers on this offering to ensure users’ data are safe.

All video calls and voice chats are encrypted whether they are on WhatsApp or Messenger. The AI camera doesn’t interact much with Facebook’s servers. Facebook receives minimal user data to configure different ads for different locations.

Similarly, the Toggle switch will mute the camera and turn off the video if needed. While it also comes with a camera lens to protect your privacy.

The price of Facebook Portal TV in Nepal is set at Nrs 44,000. This is the same as that of Amazon India Price. The Portal TV Unit comes with a camera and remote control. You can connect the device to your television set via an Ethernet cable or Wi-Fi.
