Ncell Green Ring road CSR Project

Nepal’s leading private telecom operator Ncell Axiata has announced a plan to turn the Ring Road area green. The company unveiled its latest Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) on Tuesday, July 7th at a ceremony. The initiative furthers the telco’s plan to build and maintain the greenery of the Koteshwor – Kalanki Ring Road stretch.

Ncell is collaborating with the Department of Forest and Soil Conservation to lead the eco-friendly program.

The inauguration ceremony of the initiative drew the participation of many high-profile figures. This included the Director-General of the Department of Foreign and Soil Conservation (DoFSC), Dr. Rajendra KC, and CEO of Ncell Andy Chong. Besides, Chiri Babu Maharjan, the Mayor of Lalitpur Metropolitan City (LMC) also graced the event.

For the Green Ring Road Initiative, Ncell has already undertaken the steps. The company has completed landscaping and building of the green belt area. It has also been maintaining the greenery in the 10.2 Km stretch.

The project has made a transformative impact on the area turning it into an exemplary green spot. Ncell has fostered a clean and green Ring Road with its sustainable Ring Road project.

The private telco company has contributed to the tree plantation and also initiated landscaping ensuring the maintenance of the green belt stretch. Additionally, it will take the responsibility to maintain the green belt until 2024. The project will benefit the people, community, and environment.

What was said about the Green Ring Road CSR Project by Ncell?

Andy Chong the CEO of Ncell spoke delightfully about the sustainable project. He said, “We are delighted to contribute towards a healthy environment for people and community in line with the government’s objectives linked with Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and our Axiata Group’s aspiration of Net-zero carbon. We are thankful to the DoFSC, Lalitpur Metropolitan City, Kathmandu Metropolitan City, respective wards, and other stakeholders. It has been a great example of public-private partnership and how we can collectively realize projects like these.”

Similarly, Dr. Rajendra KC, Director General of the DoFSC shared similar enthusiasm. He said, “It is a great achievement that we have been able to keep 100 percent plants of this stretch alive with some replacement against the commitment of 90 percent. We would like to thank Ncell for setting an example of private and public collaboration in the landscaping and beautification of the Ring Road. There are many other areas for such collaboration in the future.”
