Nothing Phone (3) Overview

Design and Display

Nothing Phone (3) design highlight is its camera module, but it seems randomly placed and then aligned in a manner. Anyway, choice is subjective. The frames are aluminum, and the front and back are glass. There were some suggestions of Nothing skipping the iconic glyph, but thankfully, that didn’t happen. Instead, the third-generation phone features Glyph Matrix, which now features 489 individual LEDs. It’s got an IP68 ingress protection rating against dust and water. Some may feel the phone as weightier at 218 grams, though.

To the display, Nothing Phone 3 has a 6.67-inch AMOLED Flexible LTPS panel. Another cool thing is that the screen brightness is 4500 nits, which is on par with phones like the OnePlus 13. The resolution is also beefed up at 2800 x 1260 pixels, which renders rich, bright, and colorful content on screen. Let’s not forget, the screen has a 120Hz refresh rate, which is now standard among most Android phones.

Performance and Storage

Snapdragon 8s Gen 4

Nothing Phone (3) runs on the Snapdragon 8s Gen 4 chipset. It’s an octa-core setup with 1+3+2+2 architecture with the prime core running to 3.21 GHz. Before launch, there were some expectations that the phone would house the Snapdragon 8 Elite or Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 that didn’t happen. Nothing argues that they focus on better optimization rather than raw specifications. That’s the reason they choose a decent processor on their major generational phone.

In terms of memory, the phone comes with 12 GB or 16 GB of RAM and 256 GB or 512 GB of storage. To put it simply, it will come in 12/256 GB or 16/512 GB configurations. Software-wise, the phone runs on Android 15-based Nothing OS 3.5 and gets up to 5 years of major OS upgrade facility. That’s long and great by the way.

Being a technophile, I am particularly fascinated by the evolution of mobile networks in Nepal from legacy networks (2G, 3G) to 4G (with VoLTE, VoWiFi, eSIM) and the prospects of the upcoming 5G, and equally enthralled by the development of internet from the dial-up connection to the 2 Gbps XGS-PON fiber broadband technology and their transformative impact in the country.
