Nepal Telecom (NTC) has again issued a statement to the public to make them aware of the wake of various fake posts on Facebook and other social media announcing NTC vacancy for various posts, free data, calls, and prizes. Releasing a notice on December 13, the company dismissed the legitimacy of these “vacancies” and requested the public to stay alert.

The fake NTC vacancy posts are conspicuous on social media. They are visible on Facebook groups, Messenger, WhatsApp, etc. As the number of such posts grew and came to wider public view, the company issued a clarification. The fake posts even mentioned key officials from the company to raise their authenticity to lure the users.

We have found that there are fake posts on various Facebook groups and other social media with misuse our logo that are announcing free data, calls, vacancies, and prizes,” NTC alerts in its notice. “It’s requested that everyone stay alert on these fake offers.”

Again, the company ensured that it has not announced any such information on any group or social media.

Likewise, the company urged everyone to only follow the information in its official Facebook and X (formerly Twitter) accounts with a blue tick. Nepal Telecom usually publishes its vacancies on Rastriya Dainik (a national daily newspaper) and its official website.

Fake vacancy misinformation is not uncommon

Unfortunately, it’s not an isolated case for a large Nepali company. Many times, organizations, and corporate houses have to grapple with posts claiming vacancy openings spread on Facebook and other social media. Individuals or groups with sinister designs spread such falsity with the aim of possibly compromising unsuspecting users’ personal data. This can include social media and bank accounts. And giving them away could have serious ramifications.

BE CAREFUL: Online scams are rampant and internet users must be conscious enough not to fall for dubious claims.

Fake posts sharing news of new job openings, data packs, and other fake offers and information appear on Facebook and other social media platforms these days. However, users must be aware and alert to not give in to these scams. Also, we urge readers only to follow the company via their legitimate sources, and other authentic media.
