Top 5 Smartphone brands in Nepal

Find out which companies made it to the list of the top 5 smartphone brands in Nepal. The ranking is based on the latest data released by Statcounter that derived the record on the last twelve months (April 2020-April 2021).

Samsung leads the rank atop with a 35.73% market share. The South Korean giant continues to reign in the Nepali smartphone market due to its offering of both high-end and mid-range segments. It is a leading enterprise in both volume and value due to its massively diverse range of smartphone iterations.

Samsung Note 20 Ultra

Since the inception of Android, Samsung has been a top brand in Nepal. at present, its mid-range M and A series phones have a strong market value in Nepal as wells as its premium S and Note series. Check out all the Samsung Mobiles in Nepal with Price and Specs.

Chinese brands also face stiff competition against each other to stay relevant in the market. Apple breaks into the list with its flagship models, for now, its popular iPhone 12 Series.

Chinese Brands’ Presence

Chinese phone maker Xiaomi follows at second with 21.45% of the market share in Nepal within the same period. Xiaomi’s position also comes on the back of its mid-rangers humongous popularity among Nepali consumers who seek feature-rich phones at affordable ranges.

Smartphone’s Market Share in Nepal

Xiaomi’s Redmi series has become the driver of its success in the mid-range department in various markets in Asia. Its Redmi series is very popular in India, Nepal, and East Asian markets.

However, in recent years it has stepped into the upper tier game offering flagships such as Xiaomi Mi 10T 5G and contesting Apple and Samsung.

At third rests Oppo, another Chinese brand. which is now capable of giving stiff competition to its competitors due to its both high and mid-range offerings. The data showed it boasting a respectable 9.46% market presence in Nepal within the last 12 month period.

Apple Still There!

Despite affordable phones hogging the Nepali smartphone market, there are clusters of consumers who purchase flagship devices regularly. This is why Samsung and Apple still make a commendable business with their high-end devices.

The US tech supremo Apple follows at 4th with a 7.73% market share in Nepal. Unlike its fiercest competitor Samsung, and other Chinese brands, Apple has practically never entered a mid-range market which is why it is hard for the American brand to lead the charts in Nepal and other South Asian countries.

Vivo at Fifth

At fifth stays Vivo, another brand currently rising through the tops and charting new big numbers in Asian markets including Nepal. In the past year, it enjoyed a 6.33% market space in the country with particularly Y series phones.

Vivo has evolved into a good alternative to its competitors with its devices arriving with improved specs at a better price range. Lately, It is giving a run for its money to other Chinese brands with strong performances in East Asian countries. Moreover, if it gives a head-on collision to Xiaomi and Samsung, it won’t be a surprise.

So that was the latest top 5 smartphone brand in Nepal in terms of their market share. This is solely based on the data presented by Statcounter. Please be aware of the fact that some other stats might show a little fluctuation of rankings but more or less the same result.

Mid-Range Appeal

The data underscores the continued appeal of mid-range smartphones in Nepal. As most Nepalese remain under the lower to middle-income class, they tend to buy affordable phones that also meet their requirements. The phones under 30,000 have a nice appeal for people here in Nepal

As phone makers cramp more features and specs to such devices, it is obvious that affordable devices will continue to dominate the phone market in Nepal for a sustained future.
