According to the latest Speedtest.net Global index, Nepal ranks within 100 in the world for the internet speed performance in Mobile broadband and Fixed broadband. Speedtest.net, the global leader for internet performance testing and metrics, has released its latest report including the average speed and rank of all countries including Nepal.

The report says the Global average speed of the mobile broadband is 20.28 Mbps download and 8.65 Mbps upload. For Fixed broadband, the average speed of the whole world is 40.11 Mbps download and 19.96 Mbps Upload. Norway is the top country to provide a fast mobile internet speed of 62.66 Mbps download. Whereas Singapore is on the top to have a fast fixed broadband internet speed of 153.85 Mbps download.

The Global average in download and upload for both fixed and mobile is shown below:

Nepal ranks 99 in the global index for mobile broadband whereas the rank is 92 in fixed broadband. According to Speedtest.net, the average mobile download speed of Nepal is 10.97 Mbps and 5.06 Mbps upload speed. Whereas for fixed broadband in Nepal, the average download speed is 14.05 Mbps and upload speed is 12.14 Mbps. You can also check speed through Speedcheck.org.

It is significant to see that Nepal ranks above India (rank 109) in Mobile broadband speed with 8.8 Mbps download. Whereas for fixed broadband rank, India ranks at 76th position with 18.82 Mbps download speed.

There is also a separate report for the trend of the speed of both the mobile and fixed broadband for Nepal. The mobile broadband speed of Nepal had attained its peak 11.6 Mbps download in June 2017 and got down immediately.

Recently the expansion of 4G to different areas by Ncell and the new Smart Cell 4G has already surged the mobile internet speed to the current value. Whereas the fixed broadband of Nepal has a different story here. It is going significantly up in 2017 from 10 Mbps in Jan 2017 to 14 Mbps now. It is mainly due to the expansion of Fiber internet for the home broadband (FTTH).

Here is the trend of Mobile and Fixed broadband internet speed of Nepal in 2017.

The results are based on all of the speed test that subscribers perform through their website or their Ookla speedtest.net mobile apps.
