Ntc FTTH Fiber internet

Nepal Telecom has begun its FTTH service in Ilam municipality. Now the people of Ilam will have access to high-quality and high-speed fiber net from the state-owned telco.

Nepal telecom announced the launch of FTTH there at a virtual program. Dilliram Adhikari, the Managing Director of the company said the people of the Ilam municipality will now be able to enjoy fast and reliable fiber net at their homes and offices.

According to Nepal Telecom, FTTH service will be available in all 12 wards of Ilam city.

What is FTTH?

FTTH is an internet technology that utilizes Fiber optics to establish an internet connection.

FTTH stands for Fiber To The Home service, the next-gen technology that offers world-class speed and reliability over optical fiber. Successor to the traditional ADSL that ran on copper wire, Fiber offers a significantly high data transfer rate with reliability. Check ADSL vs FTTH, which one is better?

Theoretically, Fiber can deliver 100Mbps and much more which dwarfs the speed of ADSL which can peak a mere 10-20Mbps. Fiber net is ideal for video streaming, large file downloads, online conferences, and anything that requires high volume bandwidth at a fast rate.

Nepal Telecom’s FTTH Service Expansion

Nepal Telecom started its fiber net service to replace its dated ADSL that runs on coppers. Telecom began its massive fiber rollout from the capital on Jestha 27, 2075. So far the telco has expanded its FTTH service in 72 districts. Further, the company has been able to add the highest number of FTTH subscribers during the pandemic.

Exploiting fiber optics has enabled NTC to diversify its range of offers. Recently, it launched a very compelling Triple Play service that provides voice calls, internet, and TV over a single fiber connection. While the service is at trial and available in Kathmandu at the moment, it will soon expand further when the Coronavirus scare thaws.

With FTTH net and an imminent 5G cellular broadband launch, Nepal Telecom is likely to take an unsurpassable lead in Nepal’s telecommunication market soon. Only time will tell.
