Huawei IntelligentRAN Architecture

Huawei has unveiled IntelligentRAN at the Pre-MWC Briefing and Product and Solution Launch event. It is the company’s new wireless radio network (RAN) architecture to build autonomous networks. To do so, the architecture exploits service operation intelligence, experience optimization, and simplified O&M.

At the launch event, Gan Bin, Huawei’s Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer of Wireless Solutions explained the technology. He explained how key technologies integrate into Huawei’s IntellgientRAN to support wireless networks.

He said, “Intelligence improves wireless networks greatly by supporting correlative data analysis and prediction to make decisions more adaptive. This is where IntelligentRAN comes in. It will enable networks to realize zero service waiting, consistent experience, zero network faults, and optimal experience and energy efficiency. Using Mobile Intelligent Engine (MIE), it will better coordinate data, models, and decisions between base stations and networks, paving the way to wireless intelligence.”

Features of Huawei Intelligent RAN architecture

  • Build autonomous wireless networks
  • Better optimized radio network
  • Energy Efficient RAN
  • Intelligent O&M

Huawei’s IntelligentRAN will have a supplementary influence on growing 5G applications. The fifth-generation network has already increased personal, industry, and home applications where it is available. Its ever-expanding coverage, capacity, and latency will also be crucial requirements in near future. For e.g, interference between cells, a long-standing issue in mobile networks, has hindered operators’ attempts for a better customer experience. Again, as the 5G traffic soars, so will energy consumption and this will be a burden to telcos.

But to combat these likely challenges, telecom companies are relying on intelligent wireless networks to provide services with the best frequency band combination. These companies are now looking into user-centric networks for resource configuration and simplified O&M for optimal experience, and energy efficiency.

Huawei’s IntelligentRAN for Enhanced Wireless Performance

Huawei’s new IntelligentRAN enables air interfaces to use key technologies such as smart grids, scheduling dictionaries, and channel graphs. These tools help intelligently configure air interface resources and achieve optimal user experience and capacity.

In addition, IntelligentRAN also helps with service prediction and guides non-real-time and channel selection on the network side. It also does real-time symbol scheduling and transmits power set up on the base station side. This improves energy efficiency across the entire network.

There is another feature with Huawei’s IntelligentRAN and that is it enables SLA site planning. This is where parameters are dynamically configured and models are adjusted flexibly in response to service changes.

Operators that integrate IntelligentRAN will also reap the benefit of intelligent O&M. They can self-learn features of faults to improve fault recognition accurately and root cause analysis. This replaces passive responses with proactive maintenance. This, Huawei claims “brings us closer to the zero-fault wireless network.”

Compatible with Massive MIMO

Intelligent minimum drive tests (MDTs) can also work with Massive MIMO and build an all-around high-precision map for network performance. This helps provide more accurate guidance on network planning, optimization, and VIP user assurance.

Huawei’s IntelligentRAN technology uses collaborative power control. It helps reduce electromagnetic radiation intensity while also ensuring optimal multi-band performance. This, in turn, meets power restriction requirements in need.

Speaking further, Gan stressed the importance of IntelligentRAN for Huawei’s sustainable development approach. He continued, “IntelligentRAN enables autonomous networks. It empowers industries, accelerates industry transformation, and promotes the sustainable development of the mobile industry and a digital world. We hope to work with operators and industry partners to better fulfill this goal.”

For now, Huawei is preparing to launch its products and solutions at the upcoming MWC22 Barcelona this year. The tech mega tech fair is going live from February 28 – March 3 in Barcelona. Regarding its services, Huawei says it will continue to focus on products and services that are “industry trends, GUIDE to the Future, and green development to envision the future of digital networks.”
