2G tower in Nara Lake

Nepal Telecom (NTC) has started 2G GSM mobile services in Nara Lake, Namkha Rural Municipality-5 after building a cellular tower. The service launch has made it easy for the locals in the vicinity to communicate over the reliable legacy mobile network.

2G is a GSM mobile technology that allows reliable voice service for mobile phone users. The network is also capable of low-speed mobile internet. Check out; 2G, 3G, 4G, 5G Mobile Network explained

Sunam Tamang, a resident of Yari village near Nara Lake shared delight after Ntc started the service. He said the 2G tower has made it easy for mobile communications in the area.

Previously, people had to climb the high hill to receive signals from a cellular tower in Iling. The mobile phone users in Nara and Yari now have a strong signal of a 2G network in their own area.

The 2G tower has benefited people of several nearby regions for mobile calls. The phone users in areas such as Yari, Muchu, Tumkot, Limi, etc. now can enjoy mobile service thanks to Ntc setting up the hardware in Nara Lake.

It is reported that areas in Hilsa have struggled to receive signals being distant from the location of the tower.

Ntc chief, Humla Rijiangu Lama officially shared the launch of Ntc’s 2G service in Nara Lake. Soon, the company plans to upgrade its mobile network to fourth-generation technology. That will bring the high-speed broadband network to the people for the first time in the region.

Ntc has been accelerating its 4G expansion project in recent years. The company recently amassed over 1 crore users on its coveted 4G network.

Dharmaraj Neupane, Chief Administrative Officer of Namkha Rural Municipality says the service started following a series of calls for it in the area.

He shared the network has gone live after 5 years of the agreement. But he shared that the equipment had reached the area last year. There is yet to build a cellular tower in Limi.

Being a technophile, I am particularly fascinated by the evolution of mobile networks in Nepal from legacy networks (2G, 3G) to 4G (with VoLTE, VoWiFi, eSIM) and the prospects of the upcoming 5G, and equally enthralled by the development of internet from the dial-up connection to the 2 Gbps XGS-PON fiber broadband technology and their transformative impact in the country.
