Nepal Telecom Solukhumbu GSM BTS

Nepal Telecom (NTC) has expanded its fiber network to the Solukhumbu district headquarter for the first time. With this, the people in the mountainous region will have access to high-speed telecom services from the government-backed telco.

The company expanded its NT fiber network by displacing the existing radio link spanning Okhaldhunga, Salleri, and Pattale.

The company finally extended the fiber link after the battle with disasters. Mr. Dinesh Chandra Panthi, Office Incharge of Nepal Telecom Okhaldhunga, said that they have succeeded in providing the link to Solu after almost a year and a half since the work started. He adds the fiber that had to be laid underground along the road was stopped for about nine months due to landslides in the Salme area of Solududhkunda Municipality-11.

Salme is prone to landslides. That is why the company has erected iron poles spanning 2 km in the area. This has enabled the company to extend the link to its branch office in Salleri, Panthi informed. As per Ntc’s branch office in Salleri, the fiber connection will rid the people of Solu of poor voice quality, abrupt call drops, frequent call setup problem, data speed, etc.

Ntc Fiber in Solukhumbu with higher network capacity

The fiber link has also brought more capacity and efficiency to the telco.  Ntc currently connects Salleri Bazaar with 48 cores of underground fiber. The fiber link operates at a capacity of 10 Gbps. Prior to this, the company had been providing all services in Salleri from Pattale station with a total radio link capacity of 680 Mbps.

The high-capacity fiber network would bring a substantial performance boost for the telco. It will improve the speed of the backbone transmission. It results in better performance efficiency for all the company’s services such as ADSL, FTTH, 3G, 4G, etc. Similarly, the telco can expand its FTTH and 4G network further in the remote mountainous areas. Besides, the telco can add more services and newer technologies (like 5G) in the future.

Ntc to expand Fiber link to Lukla

Having established the fiber link in Solu, Ntc wants to extend the link to Lukla in near future. Panthi shares that the telco plans to bring TV, telephone, and internet all through the single fiber cable in Solu. Ntc at the moment has rapidly expanded what they call Triple Play service. This includes all the voice, NT Fiber (FTTH), and NTTV together over a single fiber line.

Ntc will expand its fiber based transmission network in phases. At first, the company will extend its fiber network in the proximity of Salleri Bazaar. It would start the expansion from the last week of Shrawan.
