A call center will be established at Tribhuvan International Airport, (TIA) Kathmandu to provide information and updates pertaining to the tragic Yeti plane crash in Pokhara. The decision is taken by the government of Nepal after the Pokhara-bound Yeti Airlines aircraft with the registration number 9N-ANC flying from Kathmandu crashed today Sunday, January 15, 2023, in Pokhara, Kaski.

An emergency meeting of the Council of Ministers (CoM) called by hon’ble PM Pushpa Kamal Dahal “Prachanda” decided to set up a call center. It will be for service for families, relatives, and others to receive reliable information about the fate of their close ones who were onboard the ill-fated plane.

Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Bishnu Prasad Paudel informed about the government’s decision to start the call center.

Likewise, CoM has formed a five-member commission for the probe under the coordination of former secretary Nagendra Ghimire. Also, it has made it mandatory for a technical test of all domestic flights before they take off. The Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN) will carry out the tests of planes so as to avert future mishaps.

Being a technophile, I am particularly fascinated by the evolution of mobile networks in Nepal from legacy networks (2G, 3G) to 4G (with VoLTE, VoWiFi, eSIM) and the prospects of the upcoming 5G, and equally enthralled by the development of internet from the dial-up connection to the 2 Gbps XGS-PON fiber broadband technology and their transformative impact in the country.
