Nepal Telecom (Ntc) has launched its fourth-generation mobile network 4G in Chhillikot, Tulsipur-19. Known for its high-speed and consistent internet, the locals are now happy to able to have the advanced connectivity option in their area without having to climb up the hills to get mobile signals on their phones.

Prior to this, the locals had no option but to walk up the hills nearby to get any cellular connectivity. Even that would not suffice at times but now they are enjoying the blisteringly fast 4G service on their devices.

Ntc switched on its 4G network after erecting a base station tower in the area. The tower is currently delivering 4G and 2G services, shared Tilak GC, head of the Ntc office, Tulsipur. 4G is a broadband network and only provides voice service when VoLTE is activated. 2G, on the other hand, is a legacy network and provides decent voice service for subscribers.

4G is the successor to the 3G network and brings a true broadband internet experience to mobile phones

The inception of Ntc 4G in Chhillikot now provides coverage in Kutichaur, Sakram, Gwarkhola, Runtigadhi and Dubring of Rolpa, and other areas.

Before this, Chhillikot did have the coverage of Ncell, however, in the absence of Ntc, connectivity was still limited.

In recent years, the state-backed telco has stressed high-quality service expansion over profits. This has led to an upsurge in its 4G user base while also helping promote digital inclusion across the country.

Ensuring access to all the locals

Minister of Communication and Information Technology (MoCIT) Ms. Rekha Sharma inaugurated the 4G tower. She said every citizen in the vicinity will have access to telecom services with the tower.

“Even now, mobile service has yet to be feasible in Dang’s bordering areas”, she said, “but setting up cell towers there will be my first task,” she declared. Additionally, she also said that the head of the Ntc office, Tulsipur has been directed to expand phone service on highways so that rescue works could be facilitated in a timely during disasters.

Ms. Sharma also shared that the tower built in Saigha will also come into operation.

Ntc is also distributing SIM cards for free in Chhillikot where the 4G service has launched.

4G is Nepal’s current most subscribed cellular network. As per the Nta report, there are over 1.86 crore 4G users in Nepal with Ntc topping the highest customer base.
