- Viber became Nepal's most downloaded app after a social media ban.
- The ban affected Facebook and Messenger, driving users to Viber.
- Viber's ranking jumped from 89th to 1st place in Nepal's app store.
Viber has topped the charts as the most used and popular app at the moment in Nepal after the social media ban saga. The messaging app has been downloaded the most in the 24 hours after the unregistered social media apps were barred from user access.
As it goes “Every cloud has a silver lining”, the ban on social media apps has boldly done an advantage for Viber with record downloads on Play Store (Google). Especially, more users resorted to Viber after widely used Facebook and Messenger were pulled from operation. Although, users are still accessing the apps with VPN and DNS, it’s not as easily usable as regularly. So, users are compelled to resort to Viber for messaging and staying connected for users.
Viber runs riot on Play Store in Nepal
Rakuten Viber Messenger has gained the top position among the fee apps on Play Store. After Viber are resting 1.1.1.1 + WARP: Safer Internet, ChatGPT, CallApp, Turbo VPN, and WhatsApp, respectively. Venture VPN follows at sixth. In fact, there are three VPN apps in the top ten list which is not hard to understand at present.
Remember that the government’s app ban exempts TikTok, Viber, etc. that are already registered with the government. And despite the ban, Facebook app remains at tenth.

What’s even so striking is that Viber flew all the way to the top from its pre-ban rank at 89th.
