Summary✨

  • Ncell’s Integrated Data Center in Nakkhu, Lalitpur, received ANSI/TIA-942-C Rated 3 certification for its design and construction.
  • This certification highlights the facility’s reliability, security, and 99.982% uptime due to redundant systems.
  • Ncell’s Tier 3 data center supports various sectors like banks and government agencies with secure digital services.
  • The certification helps strengthen Nepal’s digital transformation by promoting local data hosting and reducing reliance on foreign infrastructure.
  • Ncell’s achievement establishes the data center as a key player in enhancing Nepal’s status as a digital hub.

Ncell’s data center in Nakkhu, Lalitpur, has received an “ANSI/TIA-942-C Rated 3 (Tier III) Design & Constructed Facility Certification”. The Integrated Data Center (IDC) boasts a 250-rack capacity. It can withstand earthquake tremors of up to 9 on the Richter scale.

The telco says that the international recognition highlights the company’s high standards of reliability, security, and quality. The milestone also furthers Nepal’s potentially a hub for data centers, with stress on performance and efficiency. Just recently, Bichuten announced a Tier-4 data center project, a landmark move for the country’s digital ambitions.

Coming to Ncell’s Nakkhu data center, it is Nepal’s first government-certified data center and cloud service provider.

Why Ncell earned Tier 3 certification for the Nakkhu data center?

Ncell says that its Tier 3 rating for the Nakkhu data center owes to the design meeting the standards required for it. That means the facility meets criteria for “concurrently maintainable infrastructure with the high availability, redundancy, and resilience required to support mission-critical operations.”

According to Ncell, the facility offers maximum uptime and can operate without interruption during maintenance, too. Its runtime is 99.982% through “redundant power, cooling, and network systems.”

The certification assessment was conducted by the Telecommunications Industry Association (TIA) – authorized audit and certification institute—Data Center Media LLP.

“This certification is a proud milestone for Ncell and for Nepal, as our data center is the first in the country to receive this globally recognized TIA certification for a design and constructed facility,” said Michael Foley, Chief Executive Officer of Ncell. “We are committed to providing world-class digital infrastructure that gives local businesses the confidence to grow while also contributing to the government’s digital transformation aspirations. Customers across critical sectors can now rely on secure, always-available services hosted right here in Nepal, because reliability is essential for businesses that cannot afford downtime.”

Ncell has earned the ISO 27001 and ISO 27701 certifications, and its data centers align with the best practices for information security and privacy through these certifications’ frameworks, thereby ensuring robust governance, data security, and risk management.

Ncell Tier III data center to keep data safe for various firms

The company says that its data center with Tier 3 certification empowers it to support banks, insurance companies, SMEs, government agencies, and large enterprises with its highly secure and reliable infrastructure for digital services, regulatory compliance, and mission-critical applications. The telco says that the Rated 3 design offers business continuity and disaster recovery with its built-in redundancy, backup systems, and minimal disruption even during maintenance and unprecedented situations. It helps organizations stay operational even during cyber incidents and natural disasters.

Ncell says that its Tier 3 data center certification promotes Nepal’s broader digital transformation ambitions “by enabling local hosting of critical data, strengthening data sovereignty, reducing reliance on foreign infrastructure, and advancing the country’s position as an emerging digital hub.”
