Nepal Telecom (NTC) has installed additional telecom equipment for the microwave BTS tower in the Dashgaja area of the Korala border to expand communication services in the remote region. The area lies in the Nepal-China border area in Mustang, and advanced connectivity services will prove extremely useful for the locals, trades, tourists, and government bodies.
A team from Nepal Telecom Provincial Directorate Pokhara and Nepal Telecom Jomsom Office, in coordination with Lomanthang Rural Municipality, installed additional communication equipment in Korla on Saturday, May 16, 2026.
Prior to this, Jomsom had installed a microwave radio link BTS tower in Korala three years ago to establish communication access. Communication access was established for the convenience of entrepreneurs who live in tents and do business in Korla and tourists who go to explore the mountainous region firsthand. For the unaware, NTC 4G is available in the Korala border area. But it’s not as effective due to the low capacity of the existing infrastructure.
Communication services are enabled in Korala; however, due to the lack of sufficient equipment for microwave radio links, the service hasn’t been reliable.
At the same time, the transmission line is also not in operation. This is why the tower uses solar energy to stay functional.

According to Hum Bahadur Bhujel, head of the Telecom Office in Jomsom, to solve the telephone and internet problems seen in the Korala border, the capacity of the battery and solar panel has been doubled to increase the BTS tower capacity of solar energy.
Bhujel added that the technicians in the Korala border have made the BTS tower of the Microwave Radio Link operate smoothly and have increased the battery backups and solar panels of the 2G and 4G BTS towers.
Lomanthang Rural Municipality Chairman Tasinarbu Gurung said that after increasing the capacity of the BTS tower, the 24-hour mobile network and internet facilities have improved. With the improvement in the mobile network, including 2G and 4G in Korlanaka, it has become easier for traders and tourists.
