Nepal Telecom (NTC) has officially launched the VoWiFi (WiFi Calling) service in Nepal. Ntc had announced the launch of this communication technology on the occasion of the company’s 21st anniversary. The technology lets users make calls using their WiFi connection and enjoy HD voice. The service was already active for a while, actually, it was there when Ntc VoLTE was launched. Now the company formally announced its commercial operation. Now, eligible Ntc users will be able to make calls inside and outside Nepal using a WiFi connection. According to the company, VoWiFi also lets users make calls and send SMS.
VoWiFi gives users an option to call without relying on mobile networks. If you live in areas where your nearest cell tower is far away and you don’t get strong signals, WiFi will now let you make calls.

How to activate VoWiFi in Ntc?
To activate VoWifi in Ntc, you need to activate VoLTE on your SIM and also your phone shall support VoWiFi.
You can go to your phone’s Settings > Mobile Networks > SIM Card > VoWiFi or something similar. The steps are similar on both Android and iPhones. If you see options such as VoWiFi or WiFi Calling, then it means your phone does support it.
When these requirements are met, you can call any national and international number with Ntc VoWiFi service.
Ntc VoWiFi tariffs and eligible smartphones
Ntc VoWiFi call tariff inside Nepal is Rs 1 for outgoing calls. But while using the service outside Nepal, outgoing calls cost Rs 3 per minute, without taxes. Incoming calls are free of cost for both inside and outside Nepal. While the charge for all calls to countries (other than Nepal) will cost the same tariff as the normal international call rate.

At the moment, only select phones have VoWiFi capability. This includes some models of Samsung, Xiaomi, all Tecno and Infinix phones after 2022, all iPhones from iPhone XR, etc. The company says that support will be expanded to more devices very soon.
