Huawei, the Chinese giant company has now become the topmost telecom vendor for equipment manufacturing in the world. It has beaten the industry giants like Ericsson, Nokia to come to the top position. This data is according to a research company named IHS Markit.

IHS is a research company for the analysis of capital intensive industries and market. In its Mobile Infrastructure Tracker Survey report, IHS reveals of Huawei beating Ericsson for the first position. Swedish vendor Ericsson was struggling to get network deals in markets worldwide, dropping its mobile infrastructure equipment share from 28 % to 26 % (2016 to 2017). The report also says that among all the telecommunication vendors, Huawei has only managed to increase mobile infrastructure equipment market share from 25 % to 28 %.

Mobile infrastructure equipment includes Radio access network (RAN), Switching network (Core), transmission network and more.

Nokia, another global mobile infrastructure equipment manufacturer also dropped its share by 1% to 23 % last year. Similarly, the report tells ZTE has a market share of 13 % whereas that of Samsung is 3 %. Compared to other vendors, Samsung only focuses on the 4G network infrastructure while others have all from 2G to 3G to 4G.

Now the whole industry is aligning for the revolution of the telecom industry through the 5G mobile network. IHS Markit predicts that 5G will boost the total revenues up to 25 billion by 2022. Whereas they also predict the revenues from 2G to 4G LTE will slow down.

Nepalese Mobile infrastructure equipment Market

Huawei is also one of the leading telecom equipment providers in Nepal. It serves almost all of the telecom operators in one or another part of the network. Huawei is the largest partner for providing those mobile infrastructure equipment to both Nepal Telecom and Ncell.

After Huawei, ZTE comes next here in Nepal. ZTE also has its mobile infrastructure equipment in most of the telecom service providers Ntc, Ncell, Smart Telecom. Let’s see how Huawei keeps its foothold in the Nepalese and International mobile infrastructure equipment Market.

It will be interesting to see the rivalry for how the previous giant Ericsson tries to fight back and make a comeback in 2018. But Ericsson has not been interested lately to get contracts here in Nepal. Earlier they had been with first Ncell GSM project and also got a setback with their proposal to Ntc 10 million GSM project.
