State-backed company Nepal Telecom has launched fiber-to-the-Home FTTH fiber internet service in Namche, a remote tourist hub in Solukhumbu district. Backed by fiber optic transmission technology, broadband connectivity can now bring high-speed home Wifi solutions to the area which will benefit both the locals and tourists.
Previously, the company had established a fiber transmission link in the mountainous district of Solukhumbu which facilitated the launch of FTTH internet service. Currently, the fiber internet service has been launched in Namche Bazaar and has a network capacity of 512 subscribers. Soon, the locals in Khunde and Khumjung will also get fiber internet for their homes as Ntc plans to extend the coverage and capacity of the service around nearby areas.
The operator inaugurated the FTTH fiber service broadband service in Namche on August 02, Wednesday. While benefiting everyone using internet-supported devices, connectivity will also play a vital role in further promoting the digital economy.
So far, people use the Internet service on hourly-paid basis, which is costly and inconvenient. However, fiber internet will enable people to buy Ntc Fiber packages and get connectivity as per their choice. Besides, subscribers will have the opportunity to get telephone with the same fiber. However, the IPTV service will take time to launch in the area, due to the possible constraints in the transmission bandwidth.

Namche Now Has FTTH Fiber internet Service from Nepal Telecom
The launch of Ntc’s popular FTTH home broadband will now make high-speed and reliable internet service available to locals, hotels, services, and tourists in Namche. It’s a milestone beginning for fixed-line broadband service in the remote tourist region.
The area does have cellular 4G service but for the locals who need home WiFi for large number of devices at once, mobile internet is less beneficial. Further, businesses and service sectors that deal with hotels, restaurants, and accommodation can now avail of affordable Internet solutions. The FTTH internet service brings a wide range of internet packages including volume-based and unlimited broadband plans. Ntc has given more priority to service expansion and degradation over priority. The company has kept itself busy in copper to fiber network migrations while also launching FTTH and 4G in remote areas across the country. In the meantime, the telecom giant is also close to launching its 5G network for public testing which should happen in the first half of FY 2080/81.
