Qualcomm has announced Snapdragon 7 Gen 4 chipset for midrange smartphones. The processor succeeds Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 from 2023 and brings more power and capabilities. It offers upgrade in CPU, GPU, and NPU for AI Engine. Here below, we have more details.
Snapdragon 7 Gen 4 CPU
Built in 4 nm process, Snapdragon 7 Gen 4 chipset has a Kryo CPU architecture with 1 prime core at 2.8 GHz, 4 performance cores at 2.4 GHz, and 3 efficiency cores at 1.8 GHz. It’s also called a 1+4+3 architecture. The chipset supports up to 16 GB of LPDDR5x RAM with UFS 4.0 storage system.
The processor is paired with Adreno GPU with a 30% boost compared to the previous generation chipset. Qualcomm implies that it’s going to be an excellent hardware for gaming. It has Snapdragon Elite Gaming features such as Adaptive Performance Engine 4.0.
Likewise, it has an updated Hexagon NPU that offers 65% boost in AI tasks with a local support for Stable Diffusion 1.5. It’s compatible with popular large language models (LLMs) to provide voice assistance, real-time language translation, etc.

Camera support
For the optics, it supports a 12-bit Spectra ISP with up to 200 MP sensor and 10-bit photo. Smartphones with this chipset can record videos at up to 4K@30 fps. As it supports AI, it offers better auto focus, while balance, auto exposure and other features to ensure that photos are well lit and taken.
SD7G4 chipset supports 5G Modem-RF system. It supports up to 4.2 Gbps of network compatibility. Other connection option includes WiFi 7, Bluetooth 6, USB Type-C, etc.

So far, Honor and vivo have confirmed to launch their upcoming phones with Snapdragon 7 Gen 4 chipset. It’s likely that they will use the chipset on midrange and upper midrange phones.
