WhatsApp update features

WhatsApp has finally brought multiple device login support which means users can now use the app with the same account on up to 4 different mobile phones. The feature will gradually roll out to all users in the next few weeks.

WhatsApp is finally rolling out multi-device login support for more than one phone. Announcing the feature, Mark Zuckerberg recently said, “Starting today, you can log into the same WhatsApp account on up to four phones,” he said.

Till now, users could use one WhatsApp account on just one phone or sync on desktop devices. But with the new update, users’ data will have the ability to log in to the same WhatsApp account across four devices. Even if the phone is switched off on one device, another device will be able to fully accept login and messages will be synced.

“You can now get a one-time-use code by entering your mobile number on WhatsApp Web, which you can use to link devices instead of scanning the QR code on your mobile phone. We’ll make this feature available for more linked devices in the future,” the company said in its blog post.

The feature had been one of the much-sought features on the popular app, especially since its competitor Telegram, Facebook Messenger has this feature. The company started a trial for multiple device logins back in 2021 with a select group of beta users. At the time, Facebook said that they had developed tech to implement end-to-end encryption for chat and calls and sync them across devices. Finally, in 2022, WhatsApp brought multidevice features for its users but it didn’t include multiple phones however, now, the company has fully enabled the feature for all users.

“Now you can switch between phones without signing out and pick up your chats where you left off. Or if you’re a small business owner, additional employees are now able to respond to customers directly from their phones under the same WhatsApp Business account.”

The following are the steps to use WhatsApp on multiple phones:

  • On the phone where you want to use an existing WhatsApp account, download and launch the WhatsApp.
  • Select language and continue.
  • To link your existing account, tap the three dots next to “Link to existing account”. [Don’t enter a phone number for this extra phone].
  • A QR code will appear.
  • Scan the QR code with your main phone.
  • Tap Settings>Linked Devices>Link a Device.
  • An interface will open to show the QR code scanning option.

WhatsApp is one of the most used apps in the world with 2 billion users. The feature will delight many users who wanted to use the same profile on multiple devices.
