Looks like, Xiaomi is set to take mobile photography to the next level. The company has uploaded a teaser video and official image on Weibo, the Chinese social site. The image is showcasing a 1-inch sensor on board to come into play with a mobile-focused detachable Leica lens. The camera module still looks identical to the regular Xiaomi 12S Ultra. So, it implies that the circular camera module depicted a possibility for an external lens.

The company has claimed on its official notes to be the first to bring an external Leica lens on a mobile phone. Lei Jun, the CEO has spoken about the details of the camera hardware on Weibo. As per the image, the phone will feature two 1-inch sensors and an ultrawide sensor. Among the two 1-inch sensors, one will be the regular mobile lens for the go-to use while the other at the center will pair with an external lens. Also, the external lens is likely to fill the absence of a zoom lens on the phone.
Meanwhile, the Xiaomi 12S Ultra is the first Xiaomi phone to come with Leica branding. The phone got launched in July 2022. Featuring flagship specs like Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1, the camera-centric phone comes with a triple camera. It consists of a 50 MP f/1.9 aperture primary camera which is the latest Sony IMX989 sensor. And the further second camera is a 48 MP f/2.2 aperture ultra-wide-angle lens with a 1128˚ FOV, followed by a 48 MP telephoto camera with 5x optical zoom and up to 120x digital zoom. It has a 6.7-inch AMOLED panel with a 2K (WQHD+) resolution and a 120Hz fast refresh rate.
