Summary✨

  • Ntc Users can now choose to disable Pay-As-You-Go (PAYG) to prevent accidental balance deductions after using up their data pack.
  • Nepal Telecom (NTC) will implement a data usage alert to notify users when they reach 90% of their data limit.
  • Ntc has also increased validity of one of the combo packs to 30 days. More packs will be made so.
  • Government to allow subscription-based data plans.

Nepal Telecom (NTC) will soon have a data usage warning to alert users of their data usage. The development comes after the Ministry of Communication, Information, and Technology (MoCIT) announced several action reform plans to implement delivery-based governance on April 06, 2026. The ministry says that it will work with NTA to bring the system to alert users of their data usage to prevent a loss of balance from their main balance.

The ministry has said that Ntc users will be notified of a data alert after 90% of data use. In the presser, the ministry shared that users will be given an option to turn off Pay-As-You-Go (PAYG). This will give major relief to the users who have a knack for losing balance after exhausting their data pack. This is one of the tasks in the key 10 services ministry just announced.

In March, the current home minister, Hon. Sudan Gurung, visited NTC office requesting a system to automatically stop data after a pack is used up or expires to prevent balance deduction. The current government has announced an effort in that very direction. So, Ntc has brought the option to disable “PayG” (aka Pay as you Go data) and extended the validity of one of the Ntc prepaid combo pack to 30 days.

How will Ntc launch the data usage alert?

Ntc will send a message to the users after they use 90% of their available data. That means, for e.g., if you have a 20 GB data pack, you get an alert from the company after using 18 GB of data. Of course, there are other ways to check mobile data usage. However, there is no official system from the carrier so far. But that’s about to change.

How to Enable/Disable PAYG in Ntc?

Already, you can disable or enable the PAYG option in Ntc for data services. The option lets you choose whether you want to continue using data out of your main balance or stop after the pack expires. Follow the steps to do this:

  • Open the Phone app/dialer
  • Dial *444#
  • Now, enter the number 4 in the field
  • Now, you enter 1 to disable, 2 to enable, and 3 to check status
  • If you enable it, you will use data even after using up your data packs, and if you disable it, data will stop working and will help save your main balance

NOTE: If you get “Connection problem or invalid MMI code, you should give it a few more attempts to work”. It comes from my own personal experience. When I succesfully disable PAYG, I got the interface stating, “Your PAYG data service disabled- NT”. Thanks, NTC.

I do wish that the company would make it work flawlessly, but that should happen soon anyway. But it’s great that the company has already started addressing this demand of the customers after the government announced work on it.

Benefits of NTC data alert for users

Ntc data packs range from hourly and daily to monthly packs. But a carrier-supported alert was missing in Ntc. With the company sending an alert to users, they get a reminder of their usage, letting them be cautious when using the internet. It brings peace of mind and value to the paying customers.

It’s almost common that many users lose their main balance due to not checking their remaining data. After it’s used up, PAYG is activated, which means the balance is deducted for using data. Many have been demanding that a system be introduced to prevent balance loss while using data. Thankfully, the communication ministry is set to cooperate with Ntc to bring such a system.

As of the writing of this article, NTC has brought a “enable/disable PAYG” option. So, it’s a good start. The ministry has also teased introducing a subscription-based data service. Similarly, the 28 days prepaid plans have started to extend to 30 days, with Ntc prepaid combo pack of Rs 299. Ntc says they will gradually extend the validity to 30 days in more packages. We will bring you the updates right when they become available. But we are hopeful that it will come very fast.
