Nepal Telecom (NTC) will soon have a data usage warning to alert users of their data usage. The development comes after the Ministry of Communication, Information, and Technology (MoCIT) announced several action reform plans to implement delivery-based governance on April 06, 2026. The ministry says that it will work with NTA to bring the system to alert users of their data usage to prevent a loss of balance from their main balance.
The ministry has said that Ntc users will be notified of a data alert after 90% of data use. In the presser, the ministry shared that users will be given an option to turn off Pay-As-You-Go (PAYG). This will give major relief to the users who have a knack for losing balance after exhausting their data pack. This is one of the tasks in the key 10 services ministry just announced.
In March, the current home minister, Hon. Sudan Gurung, visited NTC office requesting a system to automatically stop data after a pack is used up or expires to prevent balance deduction. The current government has announced an effort in that very direction.
How will Ntc launch the data usage alert?
Ntc will send a message to the users after they use 90% of their available data. That means, for e.g., if you have a 20 GB data pack, you get an alert from the company after using 18 GB of data. Of course, there are other ways to check mobile data usage. However, there is no official system from the carrier so far. But that’s about to change.

Benefits of NTC data alert for users
Ntc data packs range from hourly and daily to monthly packs. But a carrier-supported alert was missing in Ntc. With the company sending an alert to users, they get a reminder of their usage, letting them be cautious when using the internet. It brings peace of mind and value to the paying customers.
It’s almost common that many users lose their main balance due to not checking their remaining data. After it’s used up, PAYG is activated, which means the balance is deducted for using data. Many have been demanding that a system be introduced to prevent balance loss while using data. Thankfully, the communication ministry is set to cooperate with Ntc to bring such a system.
As of the writing of this article, we haven’t received more information on how NT will implement it. The ministry has also teased introducing a subscription-based data service. We will bring you the updates right when they become available. But we are hopeful that it will come very fast.
