What I did before subscribing to a monthly data pack?
Before, I used to occasionally buy data packs. Mostly, it would be daily data packs that gave me data access for 24 hours. It didn’t cost much; however, it’s short-lived and can only serve specific purposes. Also, the demerit of occasional data pack purchase is that you may end up spending more money compared to when you buy a pack with a long validity. This happened to me. I purchased a monthly data pack worth Rs 799 from Ntc. It’s a Sajilo Unlimited pack. It gives me unlimited voice (All Net), 5 GB a day (150 GB in total), and 250 SMS for 30 days.

At times, I would buy one-day packs for 5 to 6 times in just two weeks. This cost me more, and having to repeatedly buy data packs was rather cumbersome.
What kept me from choosing one big bulky pack was money, but that’s not from the sheer lack of it, but my own hesitation. That’s changed now. I am now more confident and assured of services with a 30-day service.
Now, to the main part.
My experience after buying a monthly data pack
That luxury feeling
No more than I have to feel disconnected outside. I don’t find myself desperately looking for free WiFi access, nor do I have to ask for a WiFi password from anyone. I feel independent when it comes to data services. Of course, there are ways to monitor mobile data, but now, I don’t really do that much.
Always on
Another key highlight after buying a monthly data plan is that now I have become an “Always On Data” user. Before, I used to turn on mobile data only when I had to send a message, send an email, or check my inbox. No more. I am now always connected. I don’t even have to worry about background apps consuming my valuable bandwidth. Since I am on a Sajilo unlimited pack (of 5GB per day), being always online has become totally possible for an entire month.

No balance shock
I don’t fear losing balance while using data. When I was on a volume-based plan or day plans, I would be concerned if the validity was passed, and it would deduct balance from my SIM. That doesn’t happen now as I am on a monthly plan. It’s become even more convenient with NTC’s PAYG disable option availability. I use two SIM cards as primary and secondary. And now, even Ncell has PAYG option to enable/disable, which also lets me cut off data as per my need. The gist is that with a 30-day pack purchase, I have avoided the fear of losing my main balance from my phone.

Productivity with hotspot
I don’t do this as much, but when I am outside working with no WiFi availability, I turn on the WiFi hotspot on my phone and connect my laptop to it. Also, when there is a power outage, I let my other family members or friends connect to my hotspot. I also need connectivity for blogging, so having a larger pack with longer validity has been transformative for me.
I was not eager on this before, while on daily or volume-based plans. But as I now have unlimited data access, I am fully equipped with high-quality 4G data and assurance of its service. But again, I need to mention that I use hotspot on my phone only when the battery has enough juice; otherwise, it can consume quite a lot. My main idea here is that when you buy a monthly data plan, you feel more inclined to use Hotspot Connect on more devices, which might boost your productivity and convenience.
Even at home, I am using data
Amusing enough, I care less about my home WiFi after having the privilege of an unlimited monthly data plan. The convenience has been to the point that even at home, I don’t find myself turning off my mobile data hurriedly to connect to WiFi. Because it’s not required now. 4G internet is speedy enough, and it serves me quite well for all my needs, such as browsing the web, occasional file downloads, and watching videos on YouTube.
This is among the recent trends for mobile data usage in Nepal.
Since I know that balance won’t be deducted from my SIM card, and I barely reach the 5 GB a day allocation, I let data on mostly even while at home. WiFi has become an option now at home. 👉 What Internet Speed Do You Need for Different Use Cases?
Using a smartphone as it should be
I have done plenty enough to limit my phone’s data usage. I turn off background activities for the app, switch off the data option, and even uninstall some apps when I feel they might take more data. Those are the things of the past. I now let apps send me notifications; turning off their background operation is not needed.
My smartphone is now more active than ever. And I feel that it’s the way a smartphone should be used. That was not possible with a low-budget data service. But now, I feel like a pro smartphone user.

Conclusion: My recommendation on buying a monthly data pack
In this post, I have shared my personal experience out of sheer joy and delight at how a monthly data plan has transformed my way of using mobile broadband. It has helped me from that stressful feeling of not having data all the time, having to buy daily data packs with low speed, and turning off apps’ background activities just to save data. I have reversed all these situations with a monthly data pack, though it cost me just Rs 1 short of Rs 800. But I am completely satisfied.
But it’s not imperative for everyone to buy a lengthy pack. Of course, it depends on individual needs and budget. And if you are mostly indoors with WiFi, then data use becomes already limited. However, I am often on the move and at office where I work, WiFi signal is minimal. Since I need to work on a laptop at times, I have started buying a premium pack, which has served me absolutely fine. If you are in my type of situation and haven’t yet spent on a monthly plan, I recommend you do that and see for yourself.
