Vianet provides its internet services in three main packages- Lite 125 Mbps, Ultra-Fi 200 Mbps, and Ultra-Fi 300 Mbps. You can subscribe to your favorite package for either 3 months or 12 months.

In terms of prices, the 125 Mbps Vianet internet costs Rs 2,700 for 3 months and Rs 9,000 for 12 months. It’s a “lite” package and good for a family of four to five members and a few devices for connection. Likewise, the 200 Mbps Ultra-Fi plan comes for Rs 3,450 on a 3-month subscription and Rs 11,100 on an annual plan.

The premium plan the Ultra-Fi 300 Mbps costs Rs 4,350 for 3 months and Rs 13,500 for a 12-month package. For a family of moderate to large size, and even small businesses, it’s a perfect package for a consistent internet need.

Vianet has also announced an affordable package for non-TV users. By revising the existing Ultra-fi plan, it is offering a 200 Mbps plan for just Rs.999 a month on a yearly subscription.

Installation Cost

The package would be an ideal fit for those whose only requirement is high-speed internet and not a digital TV. To get a subscription, you only have to pay for the internet service and Rs.500 for a dual-band router. The installation charges are free. Meanwhile, you will also have the option to buy the same package with ViaTV. For this, you will have to pay Rs.1,100. The set-top box comes for free in this with-TV package.

Vianet’s ViaTV service comes at the price of Rs 664 for a 3-month subscription. If you choose a 12-month package, it costs Rs 2,655 which is more cost-efficient in the long run. Likewise, the set-top-box (STB) activation costs Rs 2,000 and Rs 500 on 3-month and 12-month plans, respectively.

ViaTV premium (Recurring)Rs 664Rs 2,655
One-time STB activationRs 2,000Rs 500
STB depositRs 500Rs 500

Additionally, you need to submit Rs 500 for your STB. However, it’s refundable and you get the money back after you return the device upon terminating the service.

Due to the regulator NTA’s internet and TV anti-bundling regulation, the company provides its TV service separately now. ViaTV brings over 175 TV channels, including all the popular ones from news sports, entertainment, movies music, etc. in HD and SD formats. It comes with the Vianet internet package but you have an option not to include it in your purchase if you choose to.

Vianet Zoom

Under its Business solutions, Vianet provides Zoom plans for its customers to help subscribers with Zoom video conferencing. There are two Zoom packages- Zoom Pro and Zoom Business.

The Zoom Pro subscription gives you the ability to host up to 100 participants at once which can be extended to 1,000 with an add-on. Likewise, the plan allows group meetings for a maximum of 30 hours and includes 1 GB of cloud recording per license.

Vianet Zoom

The Zoom Business plan allows up to 300 participants at once and has a similar ability to accommodate 1000 with a large meetings add-on. With this package, there are more benefits. You get a single sign-on feature, while you also get a transcript recording feature. You can manage domains, get an admin portal, etc.

Vianet Zoom Pro plan costs Rs 22,000 for 12 months while the Zoom Business package comes for Rs 29,860 for the same duration.

Vianet Fair Usage Policy (FUP)

Like any other ISP in Nepal, Vianet subjects its customers to FUP so that they can provide a comfortable browsing experience to all during peak hours. It assesses the users’ internet consumption on 3 tiers and triggers its restrictions.

Vianet calculates both download and upload bandwidth to derive users’ total monthly (starting every English month) bandwidth consumption for its fair usage policy (FUP).

The ISP has three levels of FUP speed throttling on customers’ usage of the bandwidth. If you surpass the Level 1 Fair Usage Quota, your internet speed is lowered to 60% of the subscribed speed. Likewise, if you cross Level 2, the speed is restricted to 30%. If you also surpass Level 3, then your speed will get lower to 10% or 5 Mbps.

Vianet FUPSpeed reduction
Level 160%
Level 230%
Level 310% or 5 Mbps

The FUP counter if you have crossed resets at the start of every English month. That means, your internet comes back to its full performance.

But you can use the Ultraboost feature to purchase data for 100  Mbps internet to use the internet at high speed despite the FUP trigger. For this, you can switch your package to Ultraboost Mode on Vianet’s website or mobile app.

Additionally, you can consider choosing a high-speed plan as they come with higher FUP quotas. Also, you can buy SOHO (Small office and Home) plans that are free of FUP.

Our Verdict

Vianet has established itself as a major ISP in Nepal over the years. With Value-Added Services and improved internet packages, it is becoming another good alternative for the growing number of internet users in Nepal.

The ongoing speed war frenzy has also influenced Vianet and has launched its mega internet plan in the form of Ultra-fi. Besides, it has also improved bandwidth speed on its SoHo plan. As the ongoing internet upheaval intensifies, we might as well see Vianet offering even bigger and better fiber broadband packages.
