Xiaomi event

Xiaomi held its summer event on August 10 and launched a broad range of products. The newly crowned world’s largest smartphone OEM unveiled Mi Mix 4, Mi Pad 5, and Xiaomi Smart Speaker. Find details below.

Mi Mix 4

Xiaomi’s biggest highlight at the event was its latest Mi Mix 4 flagship smartphone launch. The device comes with some amazing features to grab the attention of Xiaomi fans.

No doubt, the central attraction of Mi Mix 4 is its under-display camera tech which Xiaomi proudly calls CUP (Camera Under Panel). While we have seen such cameras on Oppo and ZTE’s, Xiaomi distinguishes itself as Mix 4’s screen has a wide 400ppi area to let light pass through to the shooter making it “virtually invisible”.

Mi Mix 4’s display sports a 6.67-inch screen with a 120Hz refresh rate. It supports FHD resolution and comes with a curved OLED panel for crispy and vibrant images. The selfie shooter meanwhile is of a highly respectable 20MP.

Xiaomi has housed a premium Snapdragon 888+ processor with a clock speed of 3GHz underneath Mi Mix 4. The device comes with 8/128GB or 12/128,256, or 512 GB internal storage.

The rear optics is filled with exciting hardware. The rear camera setup gets a 1/1.33-inch 108MP ISOCELL HMX main sensor with OIS. the 8MP periscope with 5x optical zoom and 120mm equivalent focal length further compliments the photography through this flagship. In addition, the 13MP ultrawide camera with a free-form lens with 1% edge distortion completes an exceptional pro-level camera offering.

In its battery department, Mi Mix 4 gets a 4,500mAh battery with 120W fast-charging support. Xiaomi claims it takes only 15 minutes for a full charge. Meanwhile, the wireless 50W charging will take 28 minutes to juice up the battery to 100 percent.

Mi Pad 5

For the first time, Xiaomi has introduced a truly high-end tab series. The latest product comes in two variants, namely Pad 5 and Pad 5 Pro with some differences in specs. The base version is WiFi only while the Pro model gets both WiFi and 5G connectivity. Meanwhile, the former comes with snapdragon 860 and the pro rock on the powerful Snapdragon 870. Despite a minor variation, both tablets remain the most powerful on the Android platform right now.

In-display, both sport an 11″ panel with 2560×1600 resolution and 120Hz refresh rate for smooth screen performance. Additionally, the display is augmented with Dolby Vision and HDR10 for high-quality image rendition.
In the optics, the base model features a 13MP main camera and an 8MP secondary camera. Meanwhile, the Pro variant comes with a massive 50MP camera with another 13MP secondary camera for extra rich detailed photography.

Mi Pad 5 comes with an 8,720mAh battery with 33W fast charging and the Pro sibling gets the slightly smaller 8,600mAh battery but has better charging efficiency with 67W fast charging, the first time among the tablets.

Xiaomi Pad 5 also supports a magnetic keyboard cover and stylus which was found on iPad Pro 11, and Galaxy Tab S7, a clear indication of where Xiaomi is heading with its tablet series.

Mi Pad 5 comes in two storage options: 6/128GB, and 6/256GB, and the Pro is available in 6/128GB, 6/256GB, and the 5G enabled variant at 8/256GB configuration. The tablets will be available in China from August 16 and we will keep you updated when it hits the Nepali market.

CyberDog

The Chinese OEM has also unveiled an open-source robotic CyberDog. The company says it will only release 1000 units of it for Xiaomi fans, engineers, and robotic enthusiasts.

CyberDog weighs 3kg and can perform backflips, and trot at the speed of 3.2m/s. The robotic pet is powered by Nvidia’s Xavier AI platform and houses several cameras and sensors giving a spy-like vibe. The futuristic robodog has touch sensors, a GPS support, an ultra-wide-angel lens, and Intel’s RealSense D450 camera for depth-sensing.

“CyberDog can analyze its surroundings in real-time, create navigational maps, plot its destination, and avoid obstacles. Coupled with human posture and face recognition tracking, CyberDog is capable of following its owner and darting around obstructions,” says Xiaomi.

For connectivity, CyberDog has three USB-C ports and one HDMI port which helps to customize its hardware. lidar sensors, panoramic cameras, and searchlights can be added to it as per Xioami.

CyberDog is a limited edition reflection of Xiaomi’s growing ambitions into a diverse product portfolio. The company hopes it will amplify the development and potential of quadruped robots in the future. Xiaomi has priced it for approx. $1,540.

Xiaomi Smart speaker

The smart speaker is another product to get its unveiling today. This is the first time Xiaomi has introduced the high-end smart speaker. However, little is known yet about the product. But, sources suggest this could go on to challenge Apple’s HomePod.
