Nepalis can now send money to their family and friends in India. The facility comes as part of the further realization of cross-border payment between Nepal and India, formalized in June 2023. This initiative came into fruition during Nepal’s foreign minister Shishir Khanal’s visit to India.
The cross-border Person-to-Person (P2P) remittance service allows people in both countries to transfer funds. For this service, Nepal’s National Payments Interface (NPI) and India’s Unified Payments Interface (UPI) have been linked.
On the occasion, NCHL said, “The cross-border Person-to-Person (P2P) remittance service between Nepal and India has been officially launched with the linkage of Nepal’s National Payments Interface (NPI) and India’s Unified Payments Interface (UPI), inaugurated during a Government-to-Government (G2G) level meeting.”
It added that the move is a major step towards “enhancing seamless, secure, and real-time cross-border remittance services.”
As of now, multiple commercial banks have already started facilitating cross-border remittance services through their digital platforms, such as mobile banking apps. The service can be availed of through the ConnectIPS app, too. NCHL says that so far, about 10 commercial banks have started providing this cross-border digital transaction service. For e.g., you can use Nabil Bank’s nBank app to initiate a fund transfer to another user in India.
As of now, these banks/digital transaction service providers have started service, allowing Nepalis to send remittances to users in India.

NCHL adds that the service will expand to more banks and financial institutions in both Nepal and India in the coming days. The service has gone live after internal testing for the past week.

The money transfer limit has been established for transactions through banks in Nepal and India. A user in Nepal can send up to INR 15,000 in a day and up to INR 100,000 a month. Similarly, from India, a user can send up to INR 200,000 per day.
