Nearly 2 lakh customers were added in the month of Bhadra in the Nepalese telecommunication market. According to the latest MIS report from NTA, 189791 (1 lakh, 89 thousand) subscribers were added in the month of Bhadra of which European giant TeliaSonera associate private telco Ncell alone added 1.1 lakh whereas around 60 k subscribers were distributed by Government owned telco NTC.
With such increase, the total tele-density of Nepal got increased by 1% to 67.15% in the month of Bhadra (i.e. Mid-August to Mid-September).
Total mobile subscribers
The total mobile subscribers grew from 15.63 million to 15.81 in the month of Bhadra (i.e from August 15 to September 15). And the total data/Internet penetration is nearly 20%. According to NTA MIS report which is solely based on the no of lines distributed, Ncell led with 8.6 million subscribers, whereas NTC stood second with nearly 8 million subscribers.
We believe such a huge amount of sim card distribution is due to the people’s demand for telecommunication services. The telecom operators are also vying to get a bigger subscriber base by providing attractive promotions time and again.
Internet/data penetration
The total data/internet penetration is nearly 20% which is mostly dominated by GPRS users in GSM. Other services include ADSL, Wi-fi and CDMA PDSN.
NTA, Nepal Telecommunication Authority publishes the data of the subscriber, penetration details of the telecom market. They ask the telecom operator to submit their authentic information. After analysis of the information, they publish the data in the form of a PDF on their website. This sort of publication is really helpful who keep on following the Telecom market scenario here in Nepal.
It is also beneficial to all the international media to publish reports based on the telecom market penetration and more.
