Apple has forwarded a team of experts to resolve Nepal Telecom’s VoLTE and Band 20 Issue on iPhones.

NTC launched its VoLTE service on Monday and amassed 15,000+ activation within just 5 days. It is an extension on the 4G network that allows simultaneous voice calls and browsing without falling back to 3G or 2G. However, the service is available to a few select devices and iPhones could not make it to the list officially.

After the exchange of email between NTC and Apple, the latter has begun working on fulfilling prerequisites on iPhones to enable the service on iPhones.

US phone maker Apple has forwarded its team of experts to look into the matter of NTC’s VoLTE compatibility which has kept NTC users out of the service. Though few iPhones support Nepal Telecom VoLTE, they have some issues, whereas the band 20 4G support is fully dysfunctional.

After it emerged that SMSs on iPhones were not delivered while on VoLTE, NTC wrote an email to Apple CEO on Sunday. iPhones in Nepal also lack the required 800 MHz frequency (band 20) support as well as the necessary software arrangement to run Ntc VoLTE properly.

NTC Managing Director Dilliram Adhikari has said that Apple’s CEO Tim Cook responded positively to NTC’s mail, and was keen for assistance. And now, Apple CEO has already forwarded the matter to its team of experts that will begin working on it soon.

VoLTE Support To Arrive in July

NT Managing Director has revealed VoLTE support will arrive on iPhones this coming July. He also reported that Apple will also add 800MHz frequency (band 20) support which will enable better speed and coverage on iPhones in Nepal.

Although band 20 is known to be there on iPhones’ hardware, it is not supported by their software. As a matter of fact, they might have locked band 20 4G for iPhones in Nepal to actually receive the signal. That means the American firm will soon roll out a custom software patch to help activate NTC’s VoLTE and band 20 on iPhones.

Even before, NTC has had compatibility issues on Apple devices for 4G Network during the first launch in 2017. The telco had to reach out to the American firm that enabled the fourth-gen network for NTC users.

VoLTE is officially functional on various Samsung, Xiaomi, and Nokia devices. The state-owned telecom operator is rigorously coordinating with other smartphone makers to add support for VoLTE soon. NTC has informed that smartphones after 2018 (within three years span) will have a higher possibility of VoLTE service support.
