Ncell has won two world Communication Awards (WCA). Nepal’s leading private telco bagged the accolades in ‘The Social Contribution Award’ and ‘Crisis Response Award’ category. The winners were announced at the Total Telecom Congress event held in London on October 26.
World Communications Awards was launched in 1999. It recognizes innovation and excellence across the global telecoms industry.
The 2 awards are a testament to Ncell’s social efforts under its Corporate Social Responsibility. The company has remarkably invested itself in humanitarian causes during crises such as floods, earthquakes, and the most recent COVID-19 pandemic.
Ncell’s CSR Gaining Wide Acclaim
The company received ‘The Social Contribution Award’ for its exemplary contribution to sustainable development in Nepal via initiatives in areas such as health, education, and the environment. Ncell’s efforts have reinforced the Nepal government in the mission to achieve United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Similarly, Ncell’s ‘Crisis Response Award’ recognition reflects the telco’s continuous support to communities, government, and health sector during the testing times of COVID-19, earthquake 2015, and floods of 2017 and 2017. Whenever the crisis has struck, Ncell has always stepped up to lend its support.
The Crisis Response Award is the debuting category and Ncell saw off hundreds of other entries to attain the recognition.
Ncell Expresses Its Gratitude
Ncell CEO Andy Chong was present at the event to receive the honors. Chong expressed his delight at receiving the global recognition and took time to admire the employees at the company for their commitment.
He said, “We are truly honored to receive the prestigious World Communication Awards 2021 under the two categories. These global recognitions are special as they reflect how we have made not only significant but impactful contributions, for development and achieving SDGs in the society where we operate and how we have contributed in responding to crises for the benefit of communities and people of Nepal at large. Our achievements are shaped by the strength of the foundations we have put in place, and I would like to thank our employees for their commitment to excellence.”

Ncell clinched the Social Contribution Award against a multitude of other entities. Avaroa Cable – Connecting and transforming one of the remotest nations on earth, Indosat Ooredoo – IDCamp, Ncell Axiata Nepal, Orange Group – A Little Help, PLDT, and Smart #NoLearnerLeftBehind, and Polycab India were all shortlisted.
Likewise, the company fought off Airtel Uganda and Comviva, Amdocs, Content Guru, Ooredoo, Openreach for the ‘Crisis Response Award’.
Ncell Haul of Awards
Ncell has recently earned a host of international recognitions. Recently, the private telco won the title of ‘Asia’s Best Employer Brand Awards 2021’ realizing its marketing communications strategy, retaining, and developing talents. The company received the award at the 12th edition of Asia’s Best Employer Brand Awards.
Besides, Ncell and Dialog Axiata along with others had also won ‘TM Forum Catalyst Team Award 2021’ for Sustainability leadership for their outstanding work on ‘Measurement of Trust in AI Environment.’
Adding more to it, Ncell also grabbed two awards at the Global Business Outlook (GBO) Awards 2021. In it, the company grabbed the ‘Most Socially Responsible Telecom Company’ award in the telecommunications category. Likewise, Andy Chong, Ncell CEO also earned the ‘Telecom CEO of the Year award.
Ncell is Nepal’s second-largest telecom operator. The telco is popular for its reliable mobile broadband services. Currently, it has over 5.5 million 4G subscribers and almost 2.5 million 3G users.
Ncell has always made it visible during times of crisis whether at times of floods, earthquakes, or COVID-19. The telco has indulged in sustainable development strategies.
