Ntc is adding a CRBT for its telephony services for the looming local elections. When subscribers make a call, they will hear “Lau Na Hajur, Aayo Nirwachan” CRBT on their mobile phones. The election-focused Caller Ring Back Tone is available on both landline and mobile services of the government-backed operator from Wednesday, April 27.

When Ntc (Nepal Telecom) subscribers make a call, they will hear the new CRBT informing them about the local elections. So far, the telco has used a Covid-19 related CRBT to aware the masses since the pandemic.

Nepal is going to local polls on Baisakh 30 and it has gripped the country. At this, the leading telecom company is starting the CRBT to aware the public of the nearing elections. Likewise, the company believes the CRBT will help encourage more eligible voters to cast the votes for the candidates.

Election Commission Assistant Spokesperson and Deputy Secretary Surya Prasad Aryal, the CRBT will promote education on the election.

It adds a uniqueness to the election. How to cast votes, and promote wider public participation are the design behind adding the CRBT. He also added, “It is mainly focused on the upcoming local elections.” For now, the CRBT will only be heard on the Ntc network. But, the election commission is in talks to add the tone to Ncell, and Smart Cell.

Aryal said users of other telecom networks will soon hear the same “Lau Na Hajur Aayo Nirwachan” CRBT on their network.

Ntc added the tone free of cost. However, the talks are ongoing with the government regarding the applicable taxes.

“Ntc promised free CRBT service. But for the taxes and being in the public interest, the telco has requested a tax rebate. This is why, the election commission is coordinating talks with the government to relax the taxes,” Aryal added.

Issuing public awareness messages via its network is not new though. Ntc has disseminated Covid-19 related awareness for months since the pandemic began.
