centralized SMS gateway Nepal

Nepal Government has launched a centralized SMS gateway. The integrated Short Message Service is the result of coordination between NTC, Ncell, and Government bodies. The system will allow the government offices to send messages for just 20 Paisa.

To formalize the service, an agreement was reached today among the parties in concern. Representing the SMS gateway was the Department of Information Technology, SMS service provider NTC, and Ncell, and the office of Attorney General representing the service user signed on the trilateral agreement.

Besides the AG office, Traffic Management Department, Labor and Transport Ministry, and Bagmati Province are the others who have joined the innovative SMS facility in its first phase of a service launch.

Meanwhile, MoICT Hon’ble Gyanendra Bahadur Karki inaugurated the service at the event.

Centralized SMS Gateway Allows Messages for Just 20 Paisa

The Centralized SMS Gateway is an effective method of exchanging short messages among the member entities. Those who have joined the system will be able to exchange SMS for just 20 paisa per one message.

The service will allow government offices to disseminate information regarding services, notices, and transactions to the public for cheap. Besides, the system will allow the offices to store data about the SMS they dispatch for various services.

The centralized SMS system will operate from one entity rather than rely on a service vendor’s server or VPN connectivity. This allows the member’s offices to manage their SMS and gather reports more conveniently.

Currently, a select few government offices have joined the program. But over time more agencies and organs will join the system to dispatch the services through SMS.

Being a technophile, I am particularly fascinated by the evolution of mobile networks in Nepal from legacy networks (2G, 3G) to 4G (with VoLTE, VoWiFi, eSIM) and the prospects of the upcoming 5G, and equally enthralled by the development of internet from the dial-up connection to the 2 Gbps XGS-PON fiber broadband technology and their transformative impact in the country.
