Nepal Telecom has initiated replacing the existing copper network with its fiber line in the Dhading district as part of a nationwide fiber transformation. The copperless network is known to be much better in many ways, as discussed below.

Nepal Telecom’s Managing Director Dilliram Adhikaril was at the inauguration ceremony of Nepal Telecom’s new office building in Dhading. At the event, he announced the fiber roll-out in Dhading displacing the dated copper wire-based network. Check out: Nepal Telecom Fiber Internet; Packs, Speed [2024]

Telecom’s Nationwide Copper Migration

Nepal Telecom has already transformed the copper-based telephone to optical fiber in Baglung and Banepa. The replacement of traditional copper wires is a part of their nationwide migration to optical fiber.

The Copper wire has served the nation for a couple of decades, mainly for the landline telephone. It has also become a decade when Nepal Telecom provided broadband internet via copper cable using ADSL technology.

The telco aims at gradually extending the fiber network throughout the country and has made significant investments depending on necessities in the regions.

NTC MD spoke fondly of the construction of telecom infrastructure for Nepalese living in the hinterlands of the country so that it helps them to connect with their friends and families in the country and abroad.

Similarly, Nepal Telecom Dhading’s Office Incharge Mr. Shyammani Aryal said, “Nepal Telecom will expand the fiber network from headquarters Dhadingbesi to the entire district soon”.

He further added, “With fiber upgrade, it will be possible to provide both reliable telephone and TV service as well as high-speed internet to customers which were not possible over copper wire. While he also took relief over shifting to the telco’s own building from a leased one which will help in managing the company’s equipment”.

Benefits of Fiber Optics Over Copper

Fiber optics have become the favorite in telecommunications due to their overwhelming advantages over traditional copper counterparts. Let’s find out some major reasons why optical fiber is growing this popular.

Copper wire

When it comes to speed, fiber is an easy choice for data transmission. Fiber optics are made of tiny strands of glass that are just about the size of human hair. They can carry a huge amount of data and are capable of sending 60 terabits of data per second. Meanwhile, Copper wires are limited to just 10 gigabits per second. When it comes to providing data speed over fiber, it can meet any demand of the households (be it from tens of Mbps to 100’s) until now.

Fiber optics are also more reliable than copper. The data transmission will degrade on copper wires over just two kilometers. However, fiber provides a much more dependable data handling over the same length. Additionally, Fiber cables are immune to temperature and electric surges while copper wires are very susceptible to those environmental factors.

There are other major advantages of fiber optics over copper wires such as long-distance coverage, higher bandwidth, and enhanced security & safety.

Slowly and gradually Nepal Telecom will be shifting over to fiber optics replacing outdated copper wires. This will greatly improve voice calls, internet and also provide TV solutions to customers.

Nepal Telecom’s Triple Play Service

Nepal Telecom has already started providing TV service in Kathmandu over the fiber FTTH, making a trio of services popularly called Triple play service. Soon it will also roll out to other parts of the country. Triple Play service incorporates voice calls, internet, and Television over the same fiber cable.
