The iPhone 14 Pro Max has brought a fresh design on the display side. The notch from its predecessor, iPhone 13 Pro Max has been replaced by a smaller one. On the back side, there is a triple camera with a slightly bigger module than its previous gen. The front and back get Gorilla Glass protection plus a ceramic shield. While the middle frame is made up of surgical-grade stainless steel.
Meanwhile, Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra features a glass sandwich design with a punch-hole cutout on the screen. The camera module on the back now rises from the surface and offers a minimal camera bump to Samsung S21 Ultra. Speaking of the design, it is elegant and premium. While the aluminum frame in the middle is also A+ grade certified. Likewise, there is an S-Pen on the bottom housing. Also, the front and back get Gorilla Glass Victus Plus protection.
Moving to the display side, iPhone 14 Pro Max has an upgraded Super Retina XDR OLED panel. It sports a larger 6.7-inch display with a 120Hz refresh rate known as ProMotion technology. The LTPO panel can change its refresh rate from 1Hz to 120Hz according to the contents on the screen. Additionally, Apple debuted Always On Display for the first time. The display has a peak brightness of a stunning 2000 nits for outdoor reading. Compared to the iPhone 13 Pro, this is twice as bright. It also has HDR 10+ and Dolby Vision support.
On the other hand, the Samsung S22 Ultra sports a 6.8 inches Edge QHD+ Dynamic AMOLED 2X Infinity-O Display with a screen resolution of 1440 x 3080 pixels. Likewise, it also features a 120Hz adaptive refresh rate. There are 500 PPI density and a 240Hz Touch Sampling Rate. While there are 1750 nits of peak brightness. The smartphone comes with Corning Gorilla Glass Victus Plus protection both at the front and back panels.

The iPhone 14 Pro Max has retained the triple camera sensor. After using the 12MP main camera for a long time, Apple has finally leaped to a 48MP resolution. It has an aperture of f/1.8 and dual-pixel PDAF. For stabilization, the main camera features sensor-shift OIS technology. It takes full 48Mp res photos in RAW format as well. There is also a 2X Telephoto option using the 12MP resolution. There is a 12MP Telephoto sensor (77mm) with an f/2.8 aperture which has 3X lossless zoom. Likewise, the third camera is a 12MP ultrawide sensor with an aperture of f/2.2, this unit has 120 degrees FOV and dual-pixel Autofocus. Also, it has OIS for stabilization. It also doubles as a Macro camera for capturing tiny subjects. Furthermore, there is a TOF 3D LiDAR scanner.
Meanwhile, Samsung S22 Ultra comes with a quad rear camera setup the same as its predecessor. The main camera is an f/1.8 108MP sensor. Meanwhile, the second one is a 50MP Ultrawide sensor having 120° FOV. Likewise, there are two 10 MP telephoto lenses. One telephoto can zoom 10x optically for no loss in image details. While the other one can zoom in to 3x for capturing portrait shots. The setup here is a strong one and can capture whooping 100x photos with a respectable amount of detail. There is a 40MP front camera with an f/2.2 aperture.
Coming to the videography aspect, Samsung S22 Ultra can shoot max at 8K @24fps while iPhone 14 Pro Max can capture up to 4K @60fps. Samsung’s OIS has a 58% wider angle correction compared to its predecessor. While on the iPhone there is sensor-shift OIS. Here, Samsung can also shoot portrait videos at Full HD resolution. Meanwhile, the iPhone 14 Pro Max can shoot cinematic videos at 2.8K resolution. There is a pro-action mode for super stabilization. Likewise, the S22 Ultra has an Automatic Video-rate feature.
Talking of the front camera, iPhone 14 Pro Max’s 12MP shooter can capture up to 4K @60fps videos with gyro EIS. And the Samsung S22 Ultra’s 40MP selfie camera can also shoot up to 4K @60fps with gyro EIS.

Both phones have different SoCs and software. This section can be termed as iPhone vs Android. The iPhone 14 Pro Max brings in the latest and greatest 4nm based A16 bionic chip. It is the most powerful smartphone chip right now in the market. Whereas, Samsung S22 Ultra packs in the horsepower of Snapdragon 8 Gen 1, based on a 4nm architecture. For the European market, the S22 Ultra ships with an Exynos 2200 chip, made by Samsung. The iPhone 14 Pro Max is fueled by a 4330mAh Lithium-ion battery. It has fast charging support for up to 20W. Meanwhile, Samsung S22 Ultra has a 5000mAh Li-ion cell and 45W fast charging support. Both of the devices don’t get shipped with a charger though. On paper, Samsung wins here with a faster-charging speed. Moreover, the wireless charging support of 15W is present on both phones.

In Nepal, Samsung Galaxy Ultra is officially available in two variants; 12/256GB at Rs.169,000 and 12/512GB at Rs.179,000. The launch of the iPhone 14 Pro Max is not sure due to the import restrictions of the Nepal government. But still, the price of the iPhone 14 Pro Max can be expected to start at Rs.2,00,000 for the 256GB variant and might go up to Rs.280,000 for the 1TB variant.

Both of the phones are premium flagship devices. The iPhone 14 Pro Max with a 48MP main lens has been a massive upgrade for Apple. Its ability to shoot Pro Res videos at 4K is commendable. Also, the 2.8K quality cinematic (portrait) videos come at the top of the competition. Meanwhile, Samsung S22 Ultra is also a camera powerhouse. The 108MP primary lens, 50MP ultrawide, 10MP Telephoto lens with 3X and 10X optical zoom, and whopping 100x shots, are eye-catching. It can also record in 8K resolution. Similarly, amazing portrait mode, superb video quality, and dynamic range make iPhone 14 Pro Max a worthy competitor.
When it comes to display, Samsung has been the pioneer in providing super punchy and vibrant AMOLED panels. Here, iPhone 14 Pro Max also comes with a superb AMOLED panel.
