Advert for Call tariff of Rs 1 per Minute for Landline phone Nepal Telecom

Although there are many services introduced in the Nepalese telecom sector, voice call being one of the oldest services still remains to be the most used service in Nepal. The voice call rates have reduced significantly as compared to the past but the price has quite saturated in this decade. Let’s find the voice call tariffs (rate) for different technologies and services in Nepal Telecom (NTC).

Ntc has a multitude of technologies with which you can make a call to another subscriber. The voice call services are made in Nepal Telecom through PSTN landline telephone, GSM mobile, CDMA mobile, Fixed phone, SIP calls.

There are some speculations that voice calls (on-net calls) will be made free of cost (as in some of the telcos abroad) but for a country like Nepal, free voice is still a long way from here.

Here are the Ntc voice call tariffs aka Call rate with different services.

PSTN Landline Call Rate

The landline phone is one of the pioneering services in Nepal, which has come from manual ones to fully automatic and digital ones. Till now, Nepal Telecom is the sole telecom provider for landline service through which you can make a call, use ADSL internet.

As landline phones are postpaid billed service, there is a rental fee of Rs 200 with which you can get 175 calls. Even for the calls less than 175, you should pay Rs 200 (the rental fee). Whereas, for calls greater than 175, you should pay an extra Rs 1 per minute call.

As all the landline calls within Nepal are made local, it is the same Rs 1 per minute tariff for all the landline calls within Nepal. Calls for fixed C-phone postpaid are the same as that of PSTN phones. The pulse duration in Landline phone is of 1 minute time.

GSM and CDMA Mobile Call Tariff

For GSM  and CDMA mobile, there are different rates of Rs 1.5 and Rs 1 per minute call for prepaid and postpaid at normal hours (6 am to 10 pm) respectively. Whereas for off-peak hours, the call tariff comes to at Rs 0.55 (55 paisa) per minute for both prepaid and postpaid.

With the activation of FNF service (friends and family), GSM and CDMA prepaid customers can call at 70 paisa per minute to 5 NT numbers whereas, for postpaid users, it is 55 paisa per minute. The pulse duration is of 10 seconds in all mobile calls.

The flat call tariff for calls made within Ntc is Rs 1 per minute. Previously, they used to charge separately for calls to other regions based on the district code. The flat local call rate had become more comfortable to people.

CUG (Closed user group) Call Tariff

For closed user group (CUG) users (only available for GSM users), the call tariff comes at a bundle for more than 10 users in a group. NTC now provides unlimited calls within its own network, along with off-net calls, data packs, and SMS as well. CUG packs now range from Rs 200 to Rs 1600. Read more for NT CUG.

SIP call Voice Call Rate

NTC also has a SIP call service with the moniker Easy phone service. You can take the service by going to the Ntc office and make a call through a desktop or mobile app. The tariff of SIP calls to Ntc numbers is Rs 3 per minute. Whereas the calls made from SIP to SIP is free and the international call tariff with this service is also cheap. Find all the information about the Ntc Easy phone service.

Inter-operator Call Rate

The tariff of the call from Nepal Telecom to Ncell mobile number (off-net calls) is 50 paisa more than that of internal calls. The additional amount is the interconnection charges that the operators take for landing calls from another operator. Similar is the case for making calls from Nepal Telecom to other mobile operator numbers like Smart Cell. So from Ntc prepaid calls to Ncell or Smart, it is Rs 2 per minute whereas for postpaid it is Rs 1.5 per minute which is exclusive of taxes.

What is the Pulse Rate?

The pulse rate is the time period that is used to measure the call period and apply for billing. Telcos count the no of pulses to charge the customer with a bill. They calculate the call charge by multiplying the no of pulses, tariff per pulse.

The pulse rates have come down from 2 minutes, 3 minutes (a decade back) to a second in some countries. In Nepal, the pulse rate has been reduced from 2 minutes to 1 minute and then to 10 seconds in Landline phone. Similarly, in mobile, the pulse rate is reduced from 30 seconds to 20 seconds and now it is 10 seconds.

Here is the summary of the Ntc voice call-tariffs in all technology and services.
