  • Best Internet Service Providers (ISP) in Nepal: Latest 2025 update

Technologies used by the ISPs of Nepal

1. DSL (Digital Subscriber Line)

The most Popular DSL service is the one provided by NTC: ADSL. It uses the telephone line to give the internet without disrupting the telephone service. The thing with ADSL is that they are old, and the speed you experience decreases with your distance from the ISP station. Right now, in Nepal, the only ADSL provider in Nepal Telecom (NTC), we will see how NTC is dealing with this worn-out technology. Similarly, the A in the ADSL means Asymmetric for the downlink and uplink speed, with the downlink being of higher data rate.

2. Cable

The local cable TV provider provides this internet connection. The internet connection and TV connection use the same wire for the service. Although it is an excellent alternative to ADSL, it isn’t the best one either. Although most of the cable TV providers in Nepal use this service, fiber internet will turn it obsolete if it hasn’t already.

3. Optical Fiber (FTTH)

Finally, the fastest internet connection so far is with optical fiber. If you are not familiar with fiber-optics technology, it uses optical fiber, which is flexible, and transparent with a diameter that is slightly thicker than a human hair. It is superior to ADSL or cable connection in every aspect; they permit transmission over longer distances and at higher data rates. While the initial cost is a bit high, it is a service worth investing in the long run. Read more posts about fiber internet FTTH.

4. Wireless/Mobile broadband

After the wired connections, ones that are mainly available in the city or suburb, there is a small number of Wireless internet service providers that are based on specific areas only. The speed and reliability of such wireless internet depend on the signal received in the customer’s premises. Then there are a couple of internet options from the telecom companies, based on their 4G network. As the 4G network is expanding these days, this mobile broadband service is the future of the internet that will be ubiquitous no matter where you go.

Internet Service Providers (ISP) of Nepal

There are over 60 ISPs in Nepal right now, but we will be focusing on seven major Internet Service Providers. Now, let’s get down to our topic and help you find the best ISP in Nepal.

1. WorldLink

WorldLink is the largest ISP in Nepal in terms of customer base. The Kathmandu-based private company has over 9 lakh unique subscribers which is way higher than any other ISP. This milestone comes from its reliable internet packages and the efficient customer service center network. Besides, with WorldLink, you get a host of Value Added Services, offers, and another digital TV (IPTV) service. What’s more, the company has also launched its money-back guarantee service under which it promises to compensate customers for slow internet if it’s on the company’s side.

Worldlink

WorldLink gives you your money back for poor internet performance

One of the perks of buying WorldLink is the money-back guarantee recently launched by the company. While the chances of you claiming a refund would not always be high, however, the company does guarantee to compensate for any downturn in its internet speed. Under this plan, WorldLink says it will give money back to the customers equivalent to the remaining days in the prescribed packages if it finds that the internet speed issue is emanating from the company’s side. For this, the company sends its technical team to a customer’s residence to inspect the connection upon a “ticket”.

In sum, WorldLink offers high-speed internet packages at affordable rates, IPTV, and highly credible business solutions for enterprises. The company provides 600 Mbps and 1 Gbps internet packages for those with extreme bandwidth demands.

WorldLink residential internet packages

To start with, much of WorldLink’s popularity comes from its reliable and reasonably priced internet packages. What you get is 200 Mbps/ 250 Mbps/ and 300 Mbps internet packages on a 1/ 3/ and 12-month renewal basis. For residential users, it’s a decent set of speeds.

3 monthsRs. 3,300Rs. 3,600Rs.4,050
1 monthRs. 1,300Rs. 1,450Rs. 1,550

Don’t forget that WorldLink has brought NetTV Streamz+, the upgraded version of NetTV that brings you 180 AirConsole games, 4K multimedia support, and all the popular TV channels. So, when you are buying a WorldLink package, do remember that you have the chance to get the most engaging home entertainment solution with the NetTV Streamz+.

WorldLink also bundles its internet with a dual-band (Nokia 5G) router which ensures consistent bandwidth performance. If you want an even more elite service though, you can subscribe to a 1 Gbps plan and a WiFi Mesh router system which comes with separate nodes to get the best internet performance over a large area.

Besides residential packages, the ISP also provides various SME+ plans for small and medium enterprises. These internet packages range from 50 Mbps to 150 Mbps plans.

WorldLink’s 1 Gbps and 600 Mbps plan to rock your internet speed

WorldLink’s 1 Gbps internet service costs Rs.39,999 annually while the 600 Mbps subscription comes for Rs 30,000. The ONU and drop wire charges are waived. The company only charges Rs.500 for an ONU deposit. If you are a heavy internet user with lots of browsing, large media downloads, and streaming, and need high bandwidth regularly, it’s the best deal for you.

WorldLink also provides a Mesh router for its customers ensuring consistent and uniform broadband speed over a large area. The Mesh system comes with individual nodes that are placed at different points over a distance. The strategic placing of these nodes helps deliver reliable and thorough coverage across a large area.

You get the first Beacon Mesh node for Rs.8,000. Besides, the installation cost of Rs.3,000 and deposit charge of Rs.2,000 are also included. The 1 Gbps internet with Mesh system makes WorldLink a one-stop ISP for the ultimate internet service in Nepal.

Gamers Pack

WorldLink has launched Gamers Pack, a new internet package dedicated to PUBG players, especially the Esports community in Nepal. The offer comes with 250 Mbps and 350 Mbps packages and is bundled with a WiFi 6 router which ensures consistent and high-quality broadband performance irrespective of the distance from the main ONU device.

worldlink gamers pack features

The company claims a 75% improvement in latency for PUBG gaming and expects to elevate the gaming scenario in Nepal. Thanks to this, the vast fanbase of PUBG gaming and Esports fanatics can cash in on this dedicated gaming internet pack and elevate their gaming experience. The ISP cooperated with PUBG for the launch of this gaming internet package.

WorldLink provides elite business solutions

The company provides the best-in-class broadband solution and other technology for enterprises. 2. Nepal Telecom (Ntc)

Nepal Telecom (NTC) shoots to the second position on our list of the best ISP in Nepal. And according to the latest NTA report, Ntc is the second-largest ISP in Nepal in terms of total internet subscribers. It now has over 3.48 lakh internet users. The success comes through its popular NT Fiber service which is affordable and also offer valuable services to customers with wide ranging packages.

Ntc FTTH Fiber internet

While the private ISPs are wreaking havoc with their high-speed internet plans, Ntc has chosen to stay untouched. The ISP’s confidence manifests on the back of its unique Triple Play service. With this, the state operator is offering fiber, telephone, and TV service through a single fiber cable.

The company has remarkably improved its internet service since upgrading to fiber. Now, altogether the NTC has 50 Mbps to 200 Mbps internet plans for customers. Let’s talk about its packages:

Internet, TV, and voice all together

NT Fiber fiber internet, TV, and voice together which is unprecedented in Nepal. So, let’s talk about the internet + telephone + IPTV package here.

Nepal Telecom provides Triple Play service at convenient rates with the option to choose between Basic and Premium TV packages. If you buy a 50 Mbps package with IPTV, you get it at just Rs 10,499 for 12 months with basic TV. For the premium, it costs Rs 12,000, just a few hundred rupees more. Likewise, you can choose 100 Mbps, 150 Mbps, and 200 Mbps plans. Even better, the internet plans are unlimited while you also get a telephone service.

If you want an extra TV subscription, it will cost you an additional Rs 498.60 per month.

Nepal Telecom has now also launched an XG-PON-powered 1 Gbps FTTH internet package for corporate and enterprise customers. The package also includes a 500 Mbps plan. As a bonus, both these come with unlimited on-net calls and volume-based off-net calls too. After staying away from speed war for a long, Ntc finally gave in and brought the extremely high-speed packages which shall prop up its already thriving position in the ISP market among the top ISPs.

Despite being overrun in the speed game by affluent private ISPs, NTC has remained content. In fact, its user base has even grown remarkably in recent years and gives head-on competition to private ISPs. As you can bring home a telephone, a digital TV, and reliable fiber broadband, NT Fiber is definitely recommendable to anyone, and don’t forget the annual NT Fiber internet for Rs 12,000.

8. 4G broadband by Telcos

Internet services have been expanding to more places in the country but the private ISPs are yet to reach the remote parts where the fiber and other infrastructures are difficult to install due to the difficult terrain and weather. In such areas, Wireless/Mobile broadband is the only viable option.

Telcos in Nepal Ntc Ncell Smart Cell

Considering this, Nepal Telecom (Ntc) and Ncell have also been working on providing internet service in those areas with a 4G CPE-based broadband option. Ncell calls it a home net Wirefree + internet service which comes with 250 GB data plus unlimited data at a one-time charge of Rs 1,500. You also get to enjoy unlimited internet at throttled speed across various duration plans. Likewise, you can get free CPE and more offers in the home internet service from Ncell.

Nepal Telecom has a similar service called 4G LTE Namaste WiFi which comes in two offerings- Unlimited Basic and Unlimited Premium. Similarly, the 10 Mbps Unlimited Premium package comes at the price of Rs 8,999 for six months and Rs 16,499 for an annual subscription.

Both Ntc and Ncell provide 4G network services across Nepal with carrier aggregation. They offer good 4G coverage and speed is also good in remote areas, but a band 20 4G support amplifies the user experience further.

9. Kacific satellite internet in Nepal

In 2022, Kacific Satellites launched Nepal’s first satellite internet service in collaboration with Space Link and Everest Link. Wireless connectivity unlocks several opportunities in Nepal, especially in rural and remote areas. The company uses the Ka-band frequencies (19.7 – 21.2 GHz downlink, 29.5 – 31 GHz uplink) to beam satellite internet in Nepal.

Currently, Kacific satellite broadband is available in Nepal in remote areas such as Soru, and Karnali. The company expects the service to be a game changer to connect far-flung regions where cellular networks are not available. It can play a great role in bridging the gulf of the digital divide of Nepal by connecting the underserved parts of the country through a satellite constellation. However, that comes at a cost.

The Kacific satellite internet package starts at 3 Mbps and rises to 100 Mbps download speed. The 3 Mbps plan costs Rs 17,610 monthly while the 100 Mbps package costs a hefty Rs 550,655. It’s obvious that this type of broadband connectivity is not for mere mortals. However, the prices could come down with the competition. SpaceX is willing to start Starlink satellite service in Nepal and has tangible plans for it. The only barrier is the government’s law itself.

For countries with irregular terrain, satellite connectivity could prove to be a boon and a vehicle for digital transformation. But that will require addressing the most obvious challenges including the stiff subscription rates, the government’s liberal efforts, and amending the prevailing rigid laws.

Being a technophile, I am particularly fascinated by the evolution of mobile networks in Nepal from legacy networks (2G, 3G) to 4G (with VoLTE, VoWiFi, eSIM) and the prospects of the upcoming 5G, and equally enthralled by the development of internet from the dial-up connection to the 2 Gbps XGS-PON fiber broadband technology and their transformative impact in the country.
